@Makise ran a poll recently that asked whether we should have a formal 2019 NamePros Awards. I think it's a lot for one member to take on, and so I have decided to start this thread, where we can each contribute our own award to the member/post/thread/registrar/coupon code/avatar/etc that we would like to recognize.

And without further ado...

My 2019 NamePros Award for Most Informative Thread For a Noob goes to:

@Dave

For the thread: "Domain investing"

Older Member Voice of Reason Award

@wwwweb

Show attachment 138651

There have been good points made by those who would like a formally-sanctioned awards poll. But one quality of this current thread is our ability to create our own categories and recognize individuals for things that others might not have considered. Older Member Voice of Reason Award is a great example of this.

It's time to present another award.

Craftiest Sales Strategy for an EMD in Lieu of Direct Outbound

This award goes to the member/post who describes the craftiest (some might call it cunning) strategy for selling a domain to a targeted company without outbounding.

And the award goes to...

@MapleDots

For his "When you cannot sell a domain... sell the email address" post:

Ok gotcha- so basically a free-for-all and every category is a nod to the nominee, an automatic award. Cool bananas, why not. Its a good start, and who knows what this could evolve to :).

Thanks for the added globe logo- real classy and another beaut to choose from!

There is also this thread to draw inspiration from, a "give thanks" thread:

Would like to put up:

NamePros Steward Award
goes to
@JB Lions

503e199e00

Not sure if Steward is the best English word.

What I mean: Compared to Team Sports he is a defender, he goes where it hurts. Everybody loves the strikers and the playmakers, but they need a stable defense.

JB_Lions suddenly is appearing in threads when there could be something wrong. He does not have to be right everytimes but he always seems to be neutral, just the defender of the forum rules, of justice.

Some more ideas
Namepros Strategy Consultant of the year as I read this thread @AbdulBasit.com
Namepros Truffle Pigs of the decade (badge?): Who shared great trends or the idea of them first and enabled other members successful trades (e.g. Cloud, Crypto, MMJ ...). One nominee should be @mrcurly

I have not followed this thread but a few of the people who put incredible contributions into NamePros are the following:
  1. @Ategy and @DomainRecap both do an outstanding job producing lists for us all to consider of available domain names. I can't imagine the hours that go into these, and they do it so faithfully and for so long.
  2. @Brands.International has for a long time done a fantastic job of giving a balanced and evidence-supported analysis of new extensions for people. I can't imagine how much time he puts into this and as time goes on they seem to be more and more extensive.
  3. I understand that some feel Epik is too involved in NamePros, but I have no idea how @Rob Monster finds the time to be so involved. His co-creation with domainers on the various initiatives deserves award in my opinion, but what first attracted me to his contributions was his willingness to help individuals with no apparent payback to Epik.
  4. Where would we be without @jberryhill? Much less accurately informed!
  5. I have found @Dave posts among the most insightful and he has had several superb ones in 2019.
  6. As we saw again this week, @AbdulBasit.com is one of those who sells at 5 figures and is willing to share the details to help us all learn his masterful skills.
  7. Probably no one has his hand on the pulse of the community more than @equity78 and he combines that with a sensible no-nonsense side seasoned with knowing the industry from a long term perspective. He has now been on NamePros 15 years and has probably contributed on more different topics in 2019 than anyone else. Thank you.
  8. Where would NamePros be without @Eric Lyon? The true master of knowing so much, but always responding in a respectful and helpful manner. Hope that helps should be TMed and awarded to him. Maybe we should have a HopeThatHelps award.
  9. Very often I find that @MapleDots brings up topics I had not previously seen or thought about. I like the style of his posts, and his long term success in both businesses and in domain names is presented in a way that helps newcomers and experienced alike.
  10. A lot of the highly successful domain investors are involved in NamePros in fairly minor ways, but @bmugford is an exception. I admire both the content that he shares, and the style that he does it in.
  11. While we sometimes disagree on details, I love the logical, quantitative outlook of @Recons.Com and the active way he interacts with our community.
  12. NameBio is important to our community, and it would be nice to see @Michael recognized.
  13. If we have a courage award I would propose @Kate Buckley. She was faced with an unfair situation and responded with data, resolve and strong but well chosen words. She also would win the eloquence award in my mind and it is great to follow her success.
  14. Dofo also came a long way in 2019 and is industry-changing. Nice to see @Macit and his colleagues active on NamePros and rapidly evolving their product.
  15. DAN had a big 2019 if we have an award for industry progress. @DAN.COM and Epik would be near top of list.
  16. It is always easy to find faults with some aspect of large complex companies. @Joe Styler deserves an award for patient responses while working within the impositions of his company framework.
  17. Not many as active as @Internet.Domains and he is one of the people who strives to make this community more positive and accepting of different viewpoints. Thank you.
  18. Some prefer more instinctive approaches, and other some more logical and analytical ones. One of those is @Joe Nichols. I really appreciate both his analytical approach and in my opinion respectful nature even when he disagrees. If we had an award for following NamePros guidelines on how to interact it would be him in 2019 from my viewpoint.
  19. There are too many people to mention, but I really like the way a huge number of active NamePros members are considerate and encouraging to others, give those likes and thanks to a variety of NamePros members, welcome newcomers and more. You know who you are. You are the true NamePros stars.
  20. Special thanks and mention to the team of NamePros moderators. You do an impossible job amazingly well. Thank you. True heroes.
I am sure I missed many absolutely obvious and deserving choices, and I was hesitant to even contribute to this thread because of that, but these are just a few of the deserving people who deserve our thanks.

And I meant to mention, the statistician award for domain data to @jmcc !

I had also meant to include @Silentptnr for the Not So Silent Partner Award for daily shares of sensible viewpoints.

Agreed. For some reason I think Bob H would be awesome at assembling a poll if he is inclinded to do so and has the time.
Thanks for suggestion and I think polls are good idea but some other things in my life make it impossible for me to personally take on. I hope someone is able to.

This next category is more of a callback than it is an award. With various opinions and favorites held by members here, it's a reminder that choosing a reputable registrar is vital.

Stick To The Plan

The Stick To The Plan award goes to an entity that invokes a drastic procedure to prevent a potentially catastrophic situation from unfolding.

And the award goes to...

ICANN

ICANN terminated Alpnames in March and invoked the DARTP to ensure that all domains were transferred to an accountable registrar.
