Hi NamePros,

We’re announcing the launch of the .crypto domain extension on 12/11. 50,000 domains have already been registered. Go to https://unstoppabledomains.com/?ref=namepros to find available domains.

You’ve probably all heard about cryptocurrency, but may not be aware that new domain extensions are being launched on blockchains. These domains are not part of the ICANN system. They are stored by the owner, with their private key, not by a registrar like Godaddy. No one can transfer a domain or update it other than the owner. If you store website content on decentralized storage instead of Amazon Web Services, then no one can take down your website other than you.

A blockchain domain + Decentralized storage = An uncensorable website

This is the beginning of an entirely new internet built to protect free speech around the world.

Blockchain domain features
  • No Renewals - Pay once and it’s yours ... forever

  • No Custodian - Domains are stored by the owner. No third party can move or update them

  • Payments - The domain can be used as a payment address for cryptocurrencies. Send Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, or any other currency all to the same domain

  • Uncensorable Websites - Attach domains to content on decentralized storage and create an uncensorable website

  • Transfers - Escrow agents aren’t needed. Transfer to anyone in the world in under 1 minute with no risk of being defrauded

We’ll be moderating this thread and we’d love to hear your thoughts!

hate to be A**hole but whatever happened to .eth domains? I felt it was relevant as far as .crypto.

Regardless. Best of luck with this venture.

Besides "crypto" as a word is a better "umbrella" keyword than ETH.

next there will be a .bit and someone should buy a cheap island somewhere and file for "country" status and call it.

The country of

Victoria Royale
or
Very Royale
or
Very Real

so they can register the country code .vr

Yes!....and .eth has renewals, .crypto is owned after purchase. No renewals. Truly owning real estate on the decentralized web.

Any updates on the launch? Are the names able to be claimed? Are names assigned a block now?
Thanks in advance!

Working on it right now. We're opening up claims to a small number of users as a test. If you jump into Telegram, you'll hear the latest. Assuming no issues, we'll open claims tomorrow. We're really close.

Let me know if you need another tester for beta.

Given that blockchain domains are on the zilliqa or ethereum blockchain, how would one determine statistics such as number of .ZIL and .CRYPTO domains claimed / registered and # of domains transferred (indication they were sold to another party)?

We're getting set up right now with block explorers for .crypto, but you can see stats on .zil at viewblock.io. Also, websites like Dapp.com will have some info: https://www.dapp.com/dapp/unstoppable-domains

To clarify, do .zil owners have first rights to the equivalent .crypto? I’ve also tried submitting info for a certain domain and your system keeps saying invalid url...

This was a promotion we ran until October 8th for early .zil buyers. It's not available going forward.

Ok, so from what I’ve gathered here and via PM, there is no set system.

You should be able to tell me exactly when and how I can purchase a .crypto of my choosing. It’s murky at best right now as evident by all the questions.

Hey Keith -

The best way to determine whether or not a .crypto domain is available is to search it at unstoppabledomains.com. If it's available, you can checkout with credit card or with crypto. A temporary promotion is not related to the availability of .crypto.

Some top domains are reserved for auction and will be available later. Others are protected, which means they are being held for our sunrise period. What are you unclear about specifically?

I’m unclear about the fact that you say this particular domain will be up for auction but you can’t give a time frame. As if people have time to sit and wait for every detail...

Hey Keith,

We're not ready to run auctions yet. We're going to spend the next few months building integrations so domains work for payments and for websites. An auction is completely separate tech and not the highest priority for us. Less than 10K domains have been blocked for auction so the vast majority of domains are available right now.

If you don't want to keep track of the status of a particular domain, I suggest you watchlist it and we'll notify you when it's about to be available.

Keith (or anyone else), just let me know if you want my referral code. 😁 You know, to help me out... (https://unstoppabledomains.com/r/32170cf6215c416)

Seriously, though. Search is simple on their website. Unfortunately, only the 8 characters or more (if available) are $40 for life. There is a pricelist for less than 8 characters somewhere... once they are released. I think I saw it on their telegram channel, which I am following. I don't think they are $40 ea, unfortunately.

It's still quite early in the development. But, I kind of like that. You don't have any huge experts... most people are as clueless as I am and will help. Also, there are many tools to be developed. So, patience is key.

I highly advise anyone not to go crazy spending tons of money.

Do you recall the range?

@Unstoppable Domains - Can you add any information on the less than 8 character list? How much, when available, etc? Are they going to be auctioned or BIN?

Most of the top 10K are scheduled to go to auction. We are designing an on chain auction, which is difficult and the reason why we aren't ready to commit to dates.

We will be opening up more tiers soon and posting about it. It's the next thing after the .crypto launch is complete. We'll be sure to drop that post onto this thread as well.

Curious if there is any precedent of a governmental or corporate organization attempting to take down a blockchain website - their tactics and what the resolution was.

Hi Unstoppable, welcome to the forum.

What's the timeline for us to claim our domains? Easy enough to buy them, but seems they're just sitting stagnant and unusable within account for now.

Would like to see a detailed FAQ within the Unstoppable site using .crypto examples rather than .zil, and also it be best to start off with complete transparency after your users have purchased, rather than us chasing you for answers. Eg, after buying a couple of these, I had no idea they would be unusable. When you say doors are open Dec 12'th, I would expect things ready to roll.

I reached out to you guys using traditional methods inquiring about "claiming", and this is the response I got via email:
Claims for .crypto are not live yet for the general public. We will be sending out emails as soon as we open up claiming to everyone. At the moment we have a small group of users with early access just to be sure the system is robust.
As common courtesy, at the very least, an automated email send off to us after purchase that the domains are subject to waiting period. I don't want to have to dig for this. Would be even better if this was made clear on the get-go.

Anyhow, best of luck with your new venture. I've tucked a couple names into my back pocket because I think there's something to this even though it will take some years for mainstream adoption.

Thx,

- Hots

Since it's Sunday, it may be a bit before they reply. I have been following them on Telegram and suggest you do the same. It's the best and fastest place to get updates.

The general belief is that this week will be open to the public where you can claim the domains.

I was in the early group and it was easy to claim after I had linked my wallet. (You can link the wallet now.)

Thx CJ6, I get it. There's tons of references to using Telegram, but my point was that none of this is relayed at the point of purchase on the end user regarding usage after purchase. Plus it's all done through the Unstoppable site, and I'm playing the Regular Joe here, seeing as Unstoppable has opened this up to the point of even creating ads here on NP and dedicating a thread to the .crypto launch.

By no means am I incapable of delving into exterior sites and research outside of Unstoppable, but my point was that this should be made CLEAR AS DIRT before the fact.

All good, I have patience, but its the principle of the thing. Its become too common practice among startup and new offerings even among established business to work out the bugs and proper tech implentation after the fact. Bad practice, and starting off on the wrong footing.

If you don't know what you're doing, just say it!. Simple as, "We're offering registrations as of xx date, however, we can't guarantee immediate usage due to ongoing efforts to perfect the platform." or whatever.

Thx again CJ, read earlier it was successful for you, (I'm sure you went deeper into it however for it to happen, ie followed on Telegram) so I know it will work eventually. Exciting stuff indeed. But @Unstoppable Domains and any other new startup, just say it from the get-go that there is a staggered or testing phase.
