This is a total catastrophe and failure for the World and humanity at large. There are some things that surpass national boundaries and borders like Human Rights and certain Environmental issues that affect the whole Globe which surely should be of concern to all of us. Whether it’s the Oceans and Rivers that have been polluted or whether it’s our air and soil that have been poisoned, it all has something to do with human activity like the Global Warming and the Melting of the Ice Caps and Glaciers which is going to put many coastal Cities and Communities under water soon. IMO

Everyone’s opinions are welcomed, but keep your comments constructive, professional, and on topic. Personal attacks and belittling of others are not tolerated.

Just registered the domain name ClimateVlog.com

If I get a chance I am going to make it in to a scientific and factual reference of how the Climate has been and is continuing to change according to satellite imagery and other visual materials so that people can see for themselves that Climate Change is actually accelerating and that it won't be long before we reach the point of no return.

UN Climate Change Conference - December 2-13, 2019 COP25

https://unfccc.int/cop25
Just in time the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) published a report last week that atmospheric levels of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) reached the highest ever recorded in human history in 2018.

Link to the article: axios.com/carbon-dioxide-highest-level-in-human-history

Attached to the article is the WMO Bulletin with scientific details, no easy to read stuff.

Events at COP 25:

I see this is a biannual event. Does anyone know when the UN started hosting these forums?
This will be interesting to follow.

If you go to the link for the "Events at COP 25" in my earlier post it says:

"The conference includes the twenty-fifth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 25), the fifteenth session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 15), and the second session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 2). It also includes the fifty-first sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 51) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 51)"

I believe that the UN Environmental Program was first started back in 1972 after the first conference on Human Environment that had taken place right before that, but the formal sessions are as indicated above, I hope this helps, is that what you were asking for

Yes, that's what I was wondering. I find it both heartening that these coordinated efforts are underway to remedy our climate crisis but disheartening that after these many years of work, we are still in such dire straights.

Hopefully they'll take things much more seriously in this conference,

This might be the last chance to take some concrete actions towards saving our Home Planet before it reaches the point of no return.

Climate Change is Accelerating.

As the people have gathered in yet another Climate Conference I wonder if they truly understand the importance of what is at stake here. This is not just another Conference like the ones that have been held in the past, I hope that they can realize that we have now arrived at the Crossroads that is going to determine the future of Humanity and this Planet for good. There is no more use in discussing what steps have to be taken in the distant future, Precise and Concrete actions need to be taken right this minute if anything good is going to come out of this Conference.

WMO Report: 2019 concludes a decade of exceptional global heat and high-impact weather

That is a long and unsettling list of climate indicators. The strange thing to me is that the majority of people just seem to be going about their business as usual, shopping for the holidays, etc. It seems that the best holiday gift anyone could give their children or grandchildren would a pathway to a livable word.

This might be our last chance to save Humanity and our Home Planet before things get to the point of no return, if people care about their own future and the future of their children they have to wake up and see the importance of these next few years in determining the destiny of the World. Unfortunately those who for whatever political, religious, racial, or financial reasons want to keep the status quo and are bent on continuing on the wrong path have decided to double down on their evil ways of propaganda, deception, and intimidation in order to keep the people in the dark because they know that they can’t win the debate when it comes to the truth and so they are now turning their backs on all the Universal values and principles that are supposed to protect our rights. Same as any other fanatic and extremist group there comes a point that they can no longer hide behind the veneer of civility and that’s when they are going to show their true face which unfortunately means that there is going to be more and more animosities and hostilities instead of civilized debate and exchange of ideas. When a group's whole existence depends on suppressing and oppressing others it’s obvious that they hate any messenger who's message is going to bring about change.

te any messenger who's message is going to bring about change.

Edit: The above quote should be:

"When a group's whole existence depends on suppressing and oppressing others it’s obvious that they hate any messenger who's message is going to bring about change."

Well said, and sad but true.

All these problems could be worked out so much easier if all sides agreed to abandon their fanatic and extremist ideologies and for a minute forgot about their party affiliations and financial interests and other agendas and focused all their energy and efforts on following a logical and compassionate path that could lead to finding a solution that would be good for all the future generations and this Planet.

What is sad about this situation is that eventually all the Climate change deniers and all those who are dragging their feet and who are causing so much delays are going to realize that they have been wrong and that they have made a big mistake, but by then a lot of valuable time would be lost and there might come a point that even if they wanted to do the right thing, but it would be too late for taking the required and necessary actions that could save Humanity and this Planet.

The point of no return is fast approaching while all those who are in the know and that we are depending on for leading us out of this mess are unfortunately still engaged in doing business as usual and playing their silly political games while accumulating more and more wealth and material possessions with total disregard for the fact that the ship that they are on (this Planet) is sinking.

You are wrong again oldtimer. I am the one talking science. You are the one calling people evil.
This is the argument that exposes the dishonesty of the climate scientists.

I wish I were wrong and that everything was as you say, no climate change dangers, no damage to the environment and nothing to worry about. No one would be happier than me if I were wrong about all the problems that we have been discussing in this thread.

I am not saying that you should stop believing that the world is flat.
I know that I can never convince you of that.
But maybe you should stop saying that people who disagree with
you are evil and fanatics and "playing silly political games while accumulating
more and more wealth." Maybe they just don't think that it is a good idea
to spend 50 trillion dollars trying to fix an imaginary problem.

Let's hope all these problems are imaginary as you say, it's not like we have to wait a few hundred years to find out, we'll know in a couple of decades or so.

Congrats to her.

I expect some people are going to have a meltdown, maybe some even in this thread. From Twitter:

https://twitter.com/search?q=#TIMEPersonoftheYear2019&src=typeahead_click

"If just giving out speech can win #TIMEPersonoftheYear2019 , then it means that this honor worth NOTHING."

"Activist #GretaThunberg named #TIMEPersonoftheYear2019. Is it not the joke of the year ? International media making Another #MalalaYousafzai, good for nothing."

"#TIMEPersonoftheYear2019
What a joke. Anyone and everyone can complain about the weather. That’s hardly deserving of a “person of the year” title but ok you’re all entitled to continue worshipping your idols and false prophets."

Adolf Hitler was a Time person of the Year also.

By this comparison Time Magazine should have chosen "The Climate" as Item of the Year.

Congrats to Greta,

The thing is most of the people who complain about her no one has ever heard of beyond their immediate circle, but the World now knows Greta and that makes her voice very powerful, I hope that she continues to use her new found status to serve Humanity and this Planet.

I think she's just getting started. :)
