Some FAQ

- How will I be able to view a blockchain website?
You will need to use a browser extension or a browser that supports blockchain domains.

- Will I be able to search for and find .zil websites on Google or other search engines?
We don't expect that major search engines will index .zil websites in the near future. For now, you will be able to search for them at unstoppabledomains.com as well as on partner applications that integrate our search bar.

- Are blockchain domains part of ICANN / traditional DNS?
No. Blockchain domains are what’s called alternate roots. They are not part of the current DNS

The best use of blockchain domains are for crypto payment exchanges until they are supported by the major web browsers.

Yes, crypto addresses are notoriously long and very prone to misspelling which would result in the loss of funds. A short memorable address could rectify that issue.

It's not much helpful.

We need more features to use the blockchain extension.

What will happen if ICANN launch .crypto in future ?!!

Utilizing credits from some .ZIL acquisitions a few months ago, I ordered several .CRYPTO domains...

WPB.Crypto (West Palm Beach)
FortLauderdale.Crypto
NuevaYork.Crypto (New York in Spanish)

plus several others. I have enough credits to either claim Orlando.Crypto or SanDiego.Crypto at no additional cost but not both. I have a couple weeks to decide.

I heard the same thing when bitcoin was under $100.

I got 1 to play around with. Sorry, I'm not showing what it is (in public).
Is anyone planning on doing anything with theirs yet? Dec 5th is when .crypto is available (i believe). I might make a very simple website... not too sure yet. Like I said, I got it to play around.

I intend to play around with them on or after Dec. 5th. The dates have been changed multiple times, so I expect there may be delays as the protocols are very new and very unique.

Their telegram is still saying Dec 5th... even from today's postings. So, it may happen... the domains may get released.

@Internet.Domains

thank you for the interesting thread. Just one quesion:

What do you think will happen if ICANN delegates .crypto in standard DNS system to some new gTLD operator in future? :)

Which .crypto names will prevail, those from standard dns or those from alternative dns?

Currently .crypto is a blockchain domain that does not use DNS and would need a specific browser extension to access a file system, such as IPFS (Interplanetary File System). As it stands .crypto is looking beyond DNS, more towards Web 3.0. It is early and speculative.

If ICANN was to delegate .crypto as an extension it has been mentioned, purely speculation, that those currently selling the .crypto blockchain domains would apply to be the registry. If this scenario played out there would most likely be a right of first refusal. Again, this is speculative and as with all investments, do your research.

Unless it becomes a trademark issue since .crypto (not simply crypto) is being used. Im not sure what would happen.

If it was to be a TM issue, or legal issue, then the parties operating the .crypto blockchain domain would be the only possible registry. That would be good news because the possibility of securing the parallel, both DNS and blockchain, would increase.

It would be ironic (and pathetic) if .crypto didn't operate on blockchain. I hope ICANN doesn't try it.

As of 2 minutes ago, they said that they are still on track for a Dec 5th release... no exact time, though.
