Uniregistry took my domain, which I bought from them

More info will be added later, but I will share main points now:

1. Today I bought .com name from @Uniregistry (on their site) for $xxxx;
2. Domain Registrant Organization: NAME ADMINISTRATION INC. (BVI) - REPORTED AS @Frank.Schilling, Uniregistry CEO;
3. Automatic PayPal payment, SSE, received domain instantly, Whois updated;
4. Changed nameservers to Dreamhost (domain was for my next project);
5. 2 hours later I received a short email regarding: "Registrant Change Approved" - NEVER REQUESTED;
6. Visited my Uniregistry account - DOMAIN IS MISSING;
7. Opened Whois, Registrant Organization: NAME ADMINISTRATION INC. (BVI) again - WITH MY NAMESERVERS;
8. Opened support ticket;
9. Started support chat;
10. Uniregistry staff Kirsty informed that: "Our market team have reached out and advised this domain was incorrectly sold. You will receive a refund within 24 hours.";
11. I asked: "Please explain what does "was incorrectly sold" mean?";
12. Reply: "This is all the information we have right now, however our market team management are currently working on this for you and we will be in touch shortly."

Most of you probably think why Uniregistry acts so unprofessionally. The only answer that I can assume right now is that the same domain was listed on several other marketplaces for $18.2k, even this is not some top name (past tense verb). Domain is under NS1.UNIREGISTRYMARKET.LINK again.

I have tens of print-screens for this transaction, therefore, every point can be proved.

I will wait for their move or refund and will update the post accordingly.

The most interesting point is that the project/site for which I bought this domain will be related to online security, phishing, scams, etc. - VERY IRONIC situation :)

Now I understand what Uniregistry means by "No one does domains like Uni."

Have a nice day, everyone!

Is this for real?!

Refuse refund and insist on getting what you paid for, if they refuse then enlighten them that this case is obviously suable!

I think there were similar stories about NetSol.

It seems a good idea to immediately transfer the domain to another Registrar if you were able to get it at good price.

To sue? Maybe it would be cheaper to buy the domain for 18K? :xf.grin:

Thanks, guys. I wouldn't say that it was some outstanding price + We all know same situations with Netsol, but I would never expect this from Uniregistry. In my opinion, this is a reputation disaster.

100%.

Now curious to see their response with more details (excuses).

What is the domain, might as well have full transparency?

Is it a name that is so underpriced that they would be losing a lot of money?

Have a nice day, everyone!

You got scammed by Uni. The owner forgets to increase the price on his own marketplace and when you hit the bin and paid the money he realized his mistake. If I was him I would better honour the sale instead of taking it back forcefully.

Now ask yourself does you able to get your domain back if the seller was you. The short answer is no. He has all the power as the transaction has taken place on his own register.

You have two options 'Sue him into court' or move on. The third options will be spread this unethical practice to everyone.

Hello everyone,

I will post part of print-screens tomorrow, today I'm completely out of time.

In short:
- 24h are well behind, no domain, no refund, no contacts from Uniregistry; no updates to my support ticket;
- Domain is not listed on Sedo anymore, but I have a print-screen made yesterday after creating this thread;
- Offered Uni to join this thread yesterday;

Here you can still see the Afternic listing.

@wwwweb no, I really doubt that they would lose at all.

They are watching this thread for sure.

So it is either:

- Uni made a pricing mistake on their own website, but failed to honor the purchase contract. Does not look good, they could afford such a sale financially (better publicity). Now the result is opposite. Of course there are a lot of small letters in T&C, so it is 100% likely that their terms did allow such a reversal...

- Uni allowed somebody else to list their own domain on their own marketplace. Such a scenario makes all of us wonder how stable and well maintained their whole platform is...

Tens? What are they exactly? One would expect a couple of confirmation emails (confirm whois etc), "thank you" email, paypal transaction screen would be always inside paypal acct... Anything else?

I am just wondering for warned dot com, if they put a decimal error of $1820, instead of $18200...

I would say if you paid $4-5K they should let you keep

Sorry, this happend to you, I know what it's like to have an idea, and have the right domain for it, and to finally get it, not fun to have it yanked out of your account. Hopefully they can find a solution for you.

If an outside account had the domain listed the SSE portion of the transaction would fail. Given it's a Name Admin house name, probably was assigned to the right account, and most likely a decimal error.

Looks like the name has been owned by them since 2015, prior to that domain holdings.

Hello, guys,

After two days of inactivity from Uniregistry, I had to create another support ticket and, miracle, I have a reply (see attachment).

Basically, I won't get the domain, but NOW refund should be received next week (probably you remember "You will receive a refund within 24 hours.").

Let's wait, how it will end, and then I will post full details. At least it will save our time.

@tonyk2000 of course they have: "We may reverse transactions in our sole discretion, including circumstances of fraud, technical error, breach of these Terms." (https://uniregistry.com/legal/marketplace-agreement). If someone would be able to list domains of others, or old SSE listings would be active, it would be chaos, not a marketplace.

@wwwweb I doubt that there was any error, all prices look logically chosen. Price was lower. BTW, in my archives I found a print-screen dated 10/30/2019, showing the domain listed on Sedo at a price similar (+ Sedo fees) to the one I paid (probably the first time I saw this name).

I really doubt that they listed the domain on two separate marketplaces at a price that would bring losses. Most likely, at some point (after 10/30/2019) they decided that they want more, and forgot to update their own market.

Have a good weekend!

I think, at this point you can be sure you won’t get the domain. Why don’t you share the price you paid?

@Uniregistry What happened here?

What happened is that Uniregistry was performing an account merge to consolidate a large number of Name Administration domains that were, for various reasons, spread across several accounts. Due to a technical error, the prices that were set for quite a number of domain names failed to migrate to the new account and were set by the software to an unintended default BIN value.

As this error was being corrected, the OP appears to have noticed there was a problem:

The only answer that I can assume right now is that the same domain was listed on several other marketplaces for $18.2k

So, yes, the pricing at Uniregistry was briefly in error at the moment the OP proceeded with checkout, since the prices on other platforms are updated on the basis of prices set at Uniregistry.

Tens? What are they exactly? One would expect a couple of confirmation emails (confirm whois etc), "thank you" email, paypal transaction screen would be always inside paypal acct... Anything else?

Expecting a dispute of some kind, given the different pricing elsewhere, the OP printed each screen along the way. This further suggests the OP had reason to believe the pricing was in error.

Uniregistry made the decision to reverse the sale due to technical error, as provided in the terms, since the price was a result of an unanticipated behavior of the platform software during an account merge.

The OP has been refunded, but I understand that there is an issue with round-trip fees by the payment processors, so an additional refund is being sent.

Why don’t you share the price you paid?

The OP does not share the price, because that would make it obvious that it was an error.

I saw this domain listed at Uniregistry for around $2000 and almost bought it. I think it was a week and a half or two weeks ago. I didn't buy it because I saw that it was also listed at Afternic for 18K and figured there was some sort of mistake. It sucks for @janismo but it is what it is- an error, in this case apparently due to a glitch. IMO the only option is to move on. Suing will be pointless.

They simply saw a BIN price, and paid, really no fault to them.

It would be good to have a Uniregistry rep here, it's to bad they have no representation here being a largely domainer based registry to come in sooner, and calm such queries. It would also have been for support to give him a call, or email sooner to let them know what was going on at the point the domain was removed from the account, and this thread probably would not have even been started.

I mean are we saying if someone lists a domain at Uniregistry, and cut, and pastes it incorrectly, they can take it back?

Based on the error, as long as he gets his cash back, its seems fair.

Obviously, were I a seller, I would not let the sale go through based on a glitch on the price.

It happens.

If you were a seller on Godaddy, you would not have that opportunity, BIN's can be very dangerous, a wrong keystroke, can cost tens of thousands.

Op should move on.
It looks like they have moved on once they were contacted, looks like they requested their 3.8% credit card processing charge returned also, which was agreed to so everyone should be square at this point.
