Dear all, here is GIGI from .top registry.:xf.wink:
I've learned that our domain is not that popular here when you discuss about new gTLD.
For engaging into the changeable market better and better, I do hope you guys can give us some advice and say out what you think. Many thanks..:xf.smile:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Actually this has been the same story with every gTLD with some exception
I do not see .top getting some kick in 2020 imo,
Even on the top level, it is only .com, other's are contentiously loosing its charm....

Well, at least it's not as bad as .icu

Maybe too late, but you should increase prices. Add extra zero. This would eliminate registrations by spammers. How can you run .top (or any other extension) if many email servers administrators already blocked all .top on their mailservers (incoming emails)... because of spam

Hi Gigi, thanks for your post, and welcome to Namepros!

.Top is imo one of few hundreds of new gTLD extensions. I personally see it in category of semantically broader new gTLDs, it is similar to extensions like .xyz, .vip, or .best, in a sense, that almost any keyword can be put together with this extension.

Apart from that, my knowledge about .top is quite limited.

If there is some special use, advantage or value proposal for .top new gTLD extension, I would really like to see it discussed here on Namepros so I can learn more about it, particularly by someone with direct knowledge, and no one is better then representative of the registry imo :)

For 5 years I sold just 1 .TOP domain at $850.
Inquiries are very rare.
This TLD is just for fun - if we are talking about NON-CN endusers.

And was already said many times on NamePros - without GoDaddy I don't see any good future for .TOP outside China.

Not popular? Well it was very popular once upon a time..

Have you ever heard of the below domain?

www.toptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptoptop.top

My personal opinion about .top is that, it doesn't serve any purpose as other new gTLDs does. The extension itself is not a niche, not describing its purpose as a business.

And besides all, it sold for so cheap and became a spammers and hackers paradise thus it got blocked by major companies.

That name isn't an example of .top being popular. That's an example of someone who knows nothing wasting money. :wacky:

.top is bad and a spammers paradise and doesn't command any kind of authority. That's a big problem if you ask me.

@GIGI ZHU

🚩

???

top = top (and will always be top)

Everyone can find the proof for that in every dicitionaryyy

(...) That's an example of someone who knows nothing wasting money. (...)

THXXX

At least I
know that top = top (and that it will always be top) so it is completely irrelevant what one thinks about this domain nameee

One day also you will understand that its thoughtful creation was the opposite of
wasting moneyyy
You have to take more distance to see the big pictureee
Everyone can get smarter with timeee

>>> > Try to understand at least what I already know (see above) and see how your life will changeee

>>> > Try to reach your own toppp

>>> > Try to not get mad about domainsss

Thank you for your reply, AuctionBio. As you said, .com would always be the top level, but we do wanna win a place among new gTLDs especially in our overseas market which is others will desire about too. So that is why I am here, to know more about what consumers think and what you suggest.

Thx barman. I have to say the registrations of .icu are increasing unimaginably and we'll come up with some ways to surpass it again.

Thank you for your suggestion, Tony. About the selling price, that is what we are struggling about too. Our price is truly very cheap cuz we do care about the registration amount. New sales strategy with no low-cost may be introduced in 2020. What do you think how could we retain the registrations while increasing selling price?

Fee must be minimum ~$3 to cut most spammers/scammers.

1. .top is not as inherently bad as some other extensions like .gdn .ooo. So the product is ok, it is about packaging and marketing.

2. You need end user usage and penetrating Alexa 1MM with many .top names to gain visibility. How you do that? Well I'd have to charge consulting fee to share the strategy for it ))

3. Ad budget: you need to have some budget allocated to promote the name. Depending on what you have for it, $50K or $500K, you can optimize and choose the niches that target best and provide the best bang for buck.

It is clear that in this case your registrations and renewals will drop and significally. Only some of real developed websites will remain. How many such customers do you have? You know better. But, all spammers etc. will go away (good). Which I think is the only way for your registry to survive in a long run. The same applies to .xyz as well as any other "cheap" new gtlds. The industry is not that big, you may have normal personal contacts with competing registries, so resolving the issue together (still competing in other areas) should at least be considered. Imho.

Hello, lolwarrior, thank you for your reply. Actually I read some of your threads in Namepros, surely you would know much about new gTLD, so I'm the one who should learn from you. .top has been 5years old and we once have the most registrations among new gTLDs which is now surpassed by .icu, as the head of overseas market, I'm quite confused here. It's not very long since I entered the domain business. Way too much to learn.

Thank you for your reply sir, we'll consider your proposals. That's true we don't have many end-users and most of them are in China. Some famous brands registered our domain names for brand protection purpose and have not officially launched them. Time to figure out how can .top expose more.
