CAUTION - Stay away from Pheenix.com

PHEENIX.COM

I want to bring to light an issue I have been dealing with and hopefully it will save some others here headaches down the road.

A few month ago I was having trouble receiving authorization codes for two domains I had sold on a brand marketplace. I was not receiving the authorization codes to transfer the domain names to their new owners nor was I receiving any emails or support from phoenix.com. I had to go public with my issue to get it resolved. I have been trying to transfer my 63 domains out of pheenix ever since this has happened but I'm not getting any support.

Now, i have sold another name and again i am unable to retrieve transfer auth codes and am getting no support from pheenix. The domain name was sold at afternic almost a week ago, i sent multiple emails to the owner of pheenix and to pheenix support with no resolve. I even hunted down Mr. Tran on Linkedin who informed me he had nothing to do with Pheenix anymore.... So what the heck is going on then? Is the site just running on auto pilot and accumulating issues daily? They have zero support.

I want/need to be able to transfer all of my domains away from pheenix especially the domain I've most recently sold via afternic. Now afternic is threatening to cancel the transaction if the authorization code is not supplied to them soon.

The last message i sent pheenix was informing them i will be taking legal action against their company if i do not receive assistance in a timely manner. It is illegal for them to hold domain names and not allow domain owners full access of their property.

I am certain many others here have had issues with pheenix as well. It is getting worse.

How can this business be allowed to stay functioning in this manner?

Here are the methods I've used to try to contact pheenix support.

Tan Tran - Linked in
I managed to message Tan Tran on linked in and the reply I received was :

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You should contact ICANN and Verisign (if the domains are .com).

I have no idea why anyone would use Pheenix though .. there's been nothing but reported problem after problem for well over a year now.

If you ask me, ICANN should push it to policy that auth codes be available either directly via registrar platform, or within a hour via email (I'm looking at you Network Solutions).

Good luck getting your auth codes.

It’s been known for at least a year that pheenix is shady. Stay away!

Yes, I’ve been trying for over a year to get my domains transferred away from pheenix. I don’t receive any emails from them and cannot retrieve auth codes to transfer

These is too bad And painful,

63 domains is a huge investment,

ICANN is the final hope I guess.

Despite multiple attempts to get support from pheenix and from @gorilla_bob i have been unsuccessful in gaining access to auth codes for my domains. Tomorrow I will be filing a dispute with icann and contacting my lawyer as this has resulted in financial loss.

thank you for trying to help @Rob Monster

Sorry to hear that. Here was the confirmation I got from their support ticketing system:

I did not get a human reply from Tan or Pheenix.

It may be that they have resigned themselves to losing their accreditation. Are other folks having issues with pulling auth codes from non-expired domains?

Mr. Tran tells you he has nothing to do with phoenix.com

Hope it works out somehow.

Just logged in after months/years and noticed I still had a balance from pre-funding. So I'm guessing that's gone as well. Also, noticed FreshDrop is still working. Is that something that can work on auto-pilot/programming or is somebody still working on that.

Have any bloggers jumped on this? Don't remember seeing anything.

The initial message I sent him stated pheenix.com the follow up email auto corrected on my iPhone to phoenix.com, which is what he replied to. Since then I have sent him 3 additional messages about pheenix.com, no reply from him

Does someone know the identity of @gorilla_bob? He is apparently not active here:

Let's make sure this is a real person and not some proxy cut-out fall guy.

Yeah, that's the wrong Tan Tran, this is the right one - https://www.linkedin.com/in/tan-tran-75b5b016/

From - https://forum.poa.network/t/tan-tran-california/253

You contacted this one - https://www.linkedin.com/in/tan-tran-949238b/

Ah ok. Was just checking it out and it was linking to current auctions today. I'm not a programmer/tech type, so wasn't sure if that was something you can just program to run on it's own, or an actual person has been working on it lately.

I'm pretty sure that's Tan Tran himself based on past interactions/posts, the badges he has. Maybe, NP staff can verify. Also had 57 transactions here at NP, so some members would know more.

But you can see from Gorilla Bob's past posts, he signs them off as Tan Tran:

"Thanks.

Tan Tran"

@JB Lions -- Good work there.

Well, it looks to me like Tan is busted on this one according to the CA Secretary of State:

The tricks remaining are pretty limited. This is a very tough business. I am not sure Pheenix did much of that.

Tan - If you are reading this, call me. Let's fix this together. You have my phone number. We can fix the whole thing and it will be all good.

year and a half ago phoenix had an XSS vulnerability / architectural security. They had 2 options; fix the problem ($) or close injection port/s (¢). I guess the second option was in the game.

Pheenix is a mess they keep auctioning off customers names in an infinite loop, names seen in accounts are assigned to other accounts, and vice versa. It’s a mess, I don’t know how I got my names out of there, but when the last one was out I was relieved, but that was many months ago.

The money is still going somewhere, basically this thing is going under, and they are going to squeeze everything they can out of it.

lucky you were able to retrieve your auth codes. Some folks I know are still getting auth codes but in some cases the auth codes are faulty.. I simply just don’t receive them.

XSS injection is a common hack. That is however not what is going on here. This is more of a question of a registrar just answering the phone and not pretending that nobody's home.

I have seen the full domain list from @JudgeMind. He has some good ones in there and he has a pending sale at Afternic that he is about to lose because he can't get an auth for a name expiring in 2020!

I just added @Andee Hill to an email thread with Tan and company at Pheenix. Hopefully rational heads prevail and we can have an orderly resolution.

You should contact encirca.com not pheenix. They are selected by ICANN to manage transfer of domain names.

Thanks @Lox.

I just pinged Tom Barrett at Encirca with cc to the registrant after you reminded me of this:

https://www.namepros.com/threads/pheenix-domains-being-moved-to-encirca.1079290/

That said, Pheenix continues to exist as a legal entity in Tan's name per the CA SOS. My guess is that he kept 1 registrar:

Registrar: Pheenix, Inc.
Registrar IANA ID: 888

Tom might be able to get a hold of whoever is controlling IANA 888 which I assume is still Tan.

From https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/irvine/profile/web-hosting/pheenix-inc-1126-172010672/complaints

Hi, I had a domain registered with Pheenix, Inc (Registrar ID: ***) that later got expired and went in redemption grace period. So i was asked by Pheenix representative to make a BTC deposit of $250 USD in order to retrieve my domain and i did the same. I made $250 USD bitcoin deposit (On 3rd May) to the address i received from them in support ticket and i notified them right away about the deposit but did not heard from them. So i opened another support ticket about this problem but never ever heard about it on new support ticket either. I tried to contact them via phone but the phone number they provided on their website is not active. I also tried to contact them via their abuse department email address but no success. So i am not having any response from Pheenix inc about my 250$ deposit and it's been almost two weeks. Nor the fund is deposited in my pheenix account. I can't find any way to contact them so i am writing to you as a last resort. I am looking forward to your help on this matter. Thanking you in anticipation!
