Okay, Godaddy just locked my account, i Cant log in to account and it will remain locked until I provide them copy of my Passport under 30 days or they will terminate my account and In case I provide them requested documents, As per their email, they will Re-evaluate status of my account and decide it can be unlocked or not? Is it normal state of affairs and happens with everyone and does every registrar do it?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I've recently set up an account with a different payment provider and they asked for proof of ID and proof of address. I guess this is a pretty standard procedure within the financial/domain sector these days.

Is there any reason that you cannot comply with their requirements as this is probably the easiest thing to do.

This was done to me on two domains registered at GD but it had to do with WhoIs verification not my GDiddy account as a whole.
It is a little tough to prove identity for a registrar or hosting account, I mean it's not like identity is confirmed or even relevant at creation, other than perhaps indirectly if WhoIs is involved.

I did have GoDaddy ask me to FAX in an ID for a random check of WhoIs information for a couple of my domains, but whether this ID was kept on file or not, I don't know, in fact I think (not sure) I recall that the email or phone convo I had with the lady at GD indicated the ID would be discarded after verification.

It's all about password, email address, with some added protection in some cases (two step verification).

I always comply with rules. I did provided the documents to payoneer too but the tone of the email sent by godaddy is a bit rude and asking for documents is a good thing but locking you out of account with a deadline to terminate your account is another thing. I have done nothing wrong except cancelling an auto renew due in december of a domain I dont want to renew!!!

What country are you from, could have something to do with it?

It seems unusual unless related to some new government requirement. Are you a long term GD user, I presume?

If you have already tried customer support and got no response after waiting a reasonable amount of time you might try reaching out via DM to @Joe Styler their rep here at NamePros to see if he can in some way get any additional information for you or expedite the process.

I hope it works out for you.

Have seen other threads like this, Godaddy are famous for a shoot first, ask questions after approach.

You can still get your domains out of Godaddy if they keep the account locked as long as you are the registrant of the domain. As per ICANN the registrant has an absolute right to transfer the domain out and if they have locked the account you just email them and require them to unlock and transfer.

I am from Pakistan and yes it might be because of the country but after providing the required information, that much delay in unlocking the account is quite unethical.

those kind of troubles usually relates to payment fraud investigation, it could be easily solved if you could provide hard proof of your payoneer source of income

I have never used payoneer for godaddy transactions, all transactions have been through one same credit card over the year.

Unfortunately their live chat isnt accessible to me while their twitter handle's last reply was three days back to wait for 72 hours. And they havent responded to my today's query. I am now sending DM to @Joe Styler and hopefully He will help me out.

Their Live chat support told me to talk to the phone team as they can unlock the account. After calling 24/7 number for Pakistan, I was asked by the machine voice to enter my customer number and I did. I was then told
" it seems you are unable to authenticate into your account, For your security, you need to authenticate into your account so one of our guide can have access to your account". It doesnt even allow me to talk to a real person. 😨
