Showcase your best EMD (exact match domain) -- that means one domain per member, please!

EMD's should be .com!

Looking forward to seeing some quality showcases...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Superannuation Guarante and Superannuation Industry is searched practically second to Superannuation. They're a definition and EMD

Blockchain Operating Systems is the defniton of the new systems and EMD

Authority Node and Authority Masternode are the definitions of key nodes on VeChain and in a POA Consortium, making them EMD's.

Distributed Ledgers Technology has an extra 's' so almost an EMD

Initial Tokens Offering has an extra 's' so almost an EMD

DPoS Coin and DPoS Token are the definitions of a new coin/token type, and an EMD. This coin is fastest, efficient and most decentralized consensus. DPoS is leading the way right now.

Check it our yourself. I'm especially happy with the DPoS names.
Whatever you think, but it still shows you can’t read or follow as asked by the OP-
that means one domain per member, please!”

I hope this is not considered off-topic, but unless I misunderstand category killer (which is totally possible :xf.wink:, have always felt confused by how term was being used), it seems to me many of the submissions here are not really category killer? :-/

To me category killer means that you have the one name that many people would naturally search for. So for example hotels.com, flights.com, etc. are clearly category killer.

Now category killers can be more specific, as long as they define a category that people would search for, in my way of thinking. So FertilityClinics, SleepAids, EnvironmentalConsulting are also probably category killer I think.

To me once something else is tacked on they are no longer category killer. Like BestSleepAids, while possibly a really good domain name, is not, to me, category killer. Same for LAFertilityClinics (again a great name, but to me not CK, or am I wrong and it is?).

The other thing unclear in my mind is when something does define a category, but it is very narrow. Let's say a name like ScienceActivityParties is in a sense something someone might search naturally for and it would be the obvious term if they wanted a service or ideas for a science-themed party. But to me that is not category killer since ScienceActivityIdeas or ScienceActivityPartyService etc. are almost in same class. If there are a bunch of nearly equally good something is not category killer to me.

What about PinkStandupPaddleboard.com Yes, if someone is searching only for pink paddleboards it defines the class (or maybe plural would better) but to me that is too narrow. But maybe it is indeed a category killer?

So am I off in my thinking?

As I define it I think (in .com) I don''t have any category killer names. The closest I might have is MedicalCRISPR.com. If someone was looking for medical clinics that use CRISPR genetic editing to treat health conditions I would argue that Medical CRISPR is as category defining as perhaps possible. But I myself do not treat it as category killer, even if we were 5 years in future and CRISPR had moved from research labs to clinical treatment.

Category killers (one-words, most of the time) could certainly be more valuable and superior to a "more specific" exact-match two-word, even if it's more descriptive.

It's all up to the prospective owners' visions regarding their brand -- .com's are an important and fundamental extension of their brand core..

In this forum, category killer is the same as premium. If one owns any domain, they think it fits for both, or any, criterias!! good grief!

@Bob Hawkes Sadly common sense, logic and reality is not to be expected here.

I'm going to loosen the reins a bit on the showcase rules:

Submit (up to) 5 of your best EMDs, as I know a good chunk of us have more than one we deem worthy of showcasing.

I can't edit the original post to update the thread requirements, so I understand if there's some confusion if this post is missed.

Cheers

I did find this definition of category killer domain name according to @EJS in a column about category killer, so i think my attempt earlier in the thread, was a bit off, and indeed the term is a bit more general than I had thought.
category killer domain name is a domain name that creates a distinct competitive advantage for a company that is in, or that wishes to enter a specific industry, where that term defines the industry or a specific sector within the industry.”
I feel a bit better that someone even as experienced and wise as Elliot actually changed his mind whether a name was category killer, showing that the concept is not easy.

I also found a column that @Rick Schwartz did on defining category killer domain names (back in 2012) and I like his operational way of defining it (although as printed yellow pages get a thing of past maybe needs some other equivalent).
"Pick up a big, old thick yellow pages and see if your domain name is an EXACT match with a category heading. If it is, you own a category killer domain name."
I also stumbled upon this in @bmugford website that has a section on category killer domain names, and seeing the great examples listed are helpful.

I realize that @Mary Muse required that names listed here by in .com only. I wonder is there also the expectation that they be English only? I like the example of scooter in Spanish that @Reddstagg gave if we are to extend it to other languages.

But I can always hope as an optimist for common sense and logic! :xf.wink: But I do see as you say, in some of the responses, that people are in essence interpreting it as premium rather than the more narrow way I was thinking of it.

I still think I personally have no real category killer domain name in .com currently :xf.frown:.

I agree that the fundamentals behind a "true" EMD are fluid, so in a sense, it's always open to debate.

I think that it's opinion-based, with many domains falling into a "gray" area. Others stand out immediately and can surely be declared as true category-defining EMDs.

I respect everyone's opinion and threads like these help to clarify (for me at least) as we all can learn something on the regular!

Bob,

Thanks for your brilliant insights as always.

Unfortunately, my scooter is definitely still in park and won't be going anywhere soon. I specifically registered four scooter domain names, namely:

www .escúter.club
www .escúter.com
www .escúter.me
www .escúterme.club

in Spanish and used the acute accent over the 'u'. This was fine and GD confirmed that they had been registered. However, there seems to be some corruption of the words as they appear in my list of domains between two domains starting with 'X'. However, when I redirected them to Efty they appear in the correct order but they won't work as clickable hyperlinks on my Excel spreadsheet so there is definitely a conflict between English and Spanish.

If Domain Investing wasn't complicated enough already...sigh!!!
