Some of you may know that some months back, I was ripped off by a seller here on NP. I had bought a 4L .com domain and shortly after receiving the domain, GoDaddy repossessed it. My loss was very small thank goodness. Of course, the seller disappeared.

Anyway, after that happened, I decided that I would only purchase names registered at GoDaddy if I called them directly, and they told me the name was clear.

Well, I had to do just that today. I won an auction for a domain here on NP (it was for several hundred dollars), so right before I sent payment, I decided to call GoDaddy. The seller only had a couple of trade reviews and is new to the forum.

I called and it was great. The rep did pretty extensive checking and assured me the domain I was buying was clear of any problems at GoDaddy. He made notes of the call. I then completed the purchase.

It probably would have been fine, but I had to do it.

For anyone else that might find this useful, with a simple call to GoDaddy, they can let you know if a domain is connected to any issues.

Did you get your money back from the first sale?

No. The scam was having me pay via Dan.com. It was $100. When GD didn't help, I was just too busy to chase down a hundred bucks.

The only problem with this is that I don't really trust anything godaddy says. I've been given so much incorrect information over the years from their support staff I don't have much faith that most know what they're taking about.

Then you probably closed your account. So if you did ring them and they assured you no issues you would assume there is. The point of thread was to say hey pick up the phone before you buy and find out if there are any issues. Perhaps you could try the same thing on the platform you trust.

I still think namepros needs a verified user status before one can buy or sell on the forum.

In other words, no aliases and company or personal name and details verified.

I absolutely will not do business unless someone is a longer term member with a good rep or until I see website or domain marketplace.
