In a recent podcast episode, I explored a number of arguments for and against non-profit organizations investing in domain names.

While there are a growing number of religious and charitable foundations in existence, churches are uniquely positioned, in my humble opinion, to make the most of new domain extensions.

Now before you get all in your feelings about .com versus new domain extensions, give me a moment to objectively explain.

Not all of the new domain extensions will succeed. The end! Well, not exactly.

It’s safe to say that .horse, .company, and any other dot whatever outside the context of “church” will ever succeed for churches.

However, new extensions like .bible, .online, and .church are primed and poised for successful adoption by churches in addition to legacy extensions such as .com, .org, and .tv — commonly used extensions by churches.

I was reminded of this returning from and having traveled to Asheville, NC to participate in Rick's domain investor meetup.

Nice article, you can see a lot of Churches that are using this extension by doing a search on Google for:

"Site:.Church"

(search for exactly as written above with the quotation marks and no spaces)

.church may stay alive but doest it make sense to invest there?

Amen! It is a chosen one. The extension probably has been mentioned in holy scriptures somewhere. And, of course, the divine providence wants all to invest there.

Good question. I'm not suggesting one should invest in .church domains, but such an investment could be profitable if common church names are available at reasonable purchase and renewal prices.

Per NameBio.com, Celebration.Church, located here in Austin, Texas, is the highest .church domain sold, fetching $18K. Most of the sales, 15 listed, appear to have happened in 2015/2016.
