Lot's of controversy around .org

https://onlinedomain.com/2019/11/14...o-a-private-equity-firm-called-ethos-capital/

So my question is....

1. How many .org's do you have?

2. How many will you drop if a large price hike comes?

Hmmm about 9 such as leggings.org , I use digitalroar.org for my agency even though I am not a charity, I feel like .org can be used for more than charities at this point, it obviously stands for organization and a business is an organization, vice-versa I have seen charities with .com

I doubt the price will go to 200$ lmao, that's clickbait.

I have 23 .org , 14 one word dictionary only relevant to the extension, 2 two worders, 7 three letter.

If they hike the price I would still keep them for sure.

I have HowToBuild an ORG domain. Renewing it consistently. .ORG is an extension - which has its own merits.

I've got few .org names and i will renew them all. I've sold one random VCCV .org about a month ago for 1,000 GBP @ Sedo.

I have 5 .org, and am considering adding a couple hand-reg this month.

Of the 5, three I am rather fond of. I would probably renew those a few years ahead at current prices if it appeared renewals were going up.

I don't like the idea of the .org sale based on what we know of the transaction and people involved so far, and coming on heels of ICANN removing the price cap. I would prefer that .org was in hands of an international non-profit. That said, private equity does not necessarily mean that prices will rise dramatically.

I think the uncertainty of future directions will mean that some may hesitate or get rid of .org they hold, and that may provide a buying opportunity.

To end users even a doubling in price will have little impact. To answer the question we also need to know what is happening price wise to other TLDs. It appears that .com will go up by 31% over next 4 years, and for most others we have no certainty re what will happen.

I would liken .org to being a cartel now, First year small increase, and slowly increasing every year after that until they start getting some backlash, probably max out at around $15. It will be hard to make a case other than pure greed, as we sure to sh*t know the technology based costs for renewing domains should be going down, but personal greed continues to make them go up.

About 11 million .org's being registered, every $1 increase is $11 million dollars added to their bottom line. That is a lot of power to have against one's charity, or business, to basically extort based on your cashflow demands.

The personal mandate of ICANN is being perturbed for the sake of profit. Who knows what other ICANN employees will join Ethos Capital in the future with jobs, and options already awaiting them. The whole premise of this should make way for cleaning house at ICANN, and starting this process all over.

80ish

Some will drop Many will be kept due to value.

Just have to wait and see how any changes play into the long game.

Hope so Bob. But I doubt it. They wouldn't have inked the deal without doing a 5 year DCF with various price points and parameters. Their bean counters would have crunched historical data of price sensitivity to registrations/renewals and the fluctuations thereof. They probably would have done all those modelling with different data points and I am sure blanket price increase is the pivot their deal is based on.. All conjecture at this point, but, higher likelihood :xf.smile:

I have invested in around 18 domains. Most of them impulsive buys which I may drop. I see value in one word or two word domains that can be used by organizations (eg: Agitation.org, DewDrop.org) that provide social service and companies that may not have a .com domain available (eg: Overhaul.org).

More names are getting reserved by PIR Registry = premium renewals.
Don’t be confused ... it’s a Donuts game to frame.
If Warren Buffet decide to invest in nTld companies and dot Org, I will be the first one to slap my face and admit :banghead:

After this "Private Equity"-deal, I am going to delete most of my .org domains.
Only keeping 2 or 3 .org domains for "brand-protection", where I run my own website on the .com domain.

Around 30 .org in total, but will not renew around 10, if a price hike comes.

To many .....most quite decent ,sold a couple nothing to sing about though ....lost one to “media options” in a dropcatch battle ......wasn’t a traffic domain just a good 4l ...non word .....there are opportunities in org but best sticking with com ....same as @biggie says !

imo...
