Just a general question of how you advertise your domains for sale ? Posting on sedo and similar sites ? Directly contacting potential buyers ?

What’s tour favourite and or most successful methods ?

thanks

I brushed on a relevent topic like this one yesterday that you may find helpful:
Like with all domain names, it comes down to getting them in front of the right prospective buyers.

The only way to do that effectively is to search each target market individually (per domain) and make a list of the ideal and vertical niches that would benefit from it the most.

Once you isolate it to identify the number 1 market for it's development and branding direction, you can then start on your listing and marketing strategy.

The short version of that, is to choose which venue to list on:
  • Some choose the one with most interest in their niche (Verified by checking specific sales reports in the niche across all venues and choosing the one with the most sales in that niche).
  • Others, list on all venues and go for the more eye-balls = more opportunity approach (Which can also create a lot of extra work in listing, editing, removing, etc. for each venue you have to do).
  • And others, that choose one location they are more comfortable with and find it easier to express the vision and potential of the domain name they want to resell.
  • The emerging choice now days is having an internal (Your own) online domain portfolio with in-house landing pages to direct visitors to)
Sometimes, it comes down to the payment handling and the choice becomes that of a venue that can process the payment between the buyer and seller (Basically, a venue with a built in escrow and no 3rd party needed) for convenience.

Once the venue is chosen for your niche asset, you can't just sit back and wait. In a perfect world and when all the planets align that will work for any domain name (Very rarely). However, the reality of it, is that only the most premium and sought after domain names attract organic eyeballs like that.

As with anything in the world that is for sale, it all comes down to optimal targeted exposure in the niche the asset can benefit the most (Meaning, you should focus the most on getting it in front of the eyeballs that need it, not just want it).

Once you feel you've nailed down that type of target niche, you then need to take it to market and utilize different strategies and techniques to get the asset in front of them and not just sitting at a venue you're type of investors and start-ups don't frequent regularly.

Some domain investors opt for one or more of the following:
  • Social Media - Niche Group marketing (Utilizing niche groups to offer the asset, as long as the group rules allow it, providing a potential buyer direct audience)
  • Social Media - Business page marketing (Utilizing a business page to list domains for sale in one place, that you tag or link to in comments as your socialize on the social media platform.
  • Social Media - Domain Group marketing (Utilizing groups dedicated for domain resellers to list their domain names for sale that other domain investors or brokers may see)
  • In-Bound - Search Engine Marketing (Utilizing search engine optimization techniques to get your landing page on page one of search engines for assorted terms that potential end-users search for.)
  • Out-Bound - eMail and Phone Marketing (Utilizing emails address and phone numbers found that lead directly to the end-user and bypass the gate-keeper)
  • Brokerage - Domain name broker (Utilizing a domain brokerage to market your domain name for you, but for a percentage of the sale they are able to close)
  • Community - Local and Forum marketing (Utilizing free flyer cork boards at laundromats, restaurants, etc. as well as signature and profile areas on forums to let more people know about the asset in their more frequented community circles)
  • And many more options...
Regardless of which strategy is being used for more exposure, at a minimum, you'll need to provide a domain/url (link) to a location with more information about the asset. This is one reason why some investors only list an asset in one place (Besides all the clean-up work at multiple venues), they can simply use the same url/domain that redirects to the sales listing/lander in all their marketing copy, allowing them to zero-target-in and focus-on one location with 100% effort instead of 3, 6, 12+ locations with spread out efforts, lacking the 100% commitment.

There's a lot more to consider and the above is just my opinion. Others may have some better suggestions or more in-depth details about a specific category I mentioned above.

At the end of the day, everyone does things differently and what works for one may not work for another.
