Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I suggest a new thread titled Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here. Then we can all list our issues so Afternic have to fix them. These Afternic probs have been repeatedly flagged up across numerous threads on here over a period of time, including the need for 2FA. Godaddy own Afternic and have the resources and motivation to fix it - this risky mess is unacceptable and reflects badly on their brand.

For info, Afternic keep reverting some of my domains to "In Review" status for no reason, and I only know that if I log in there to check on them. Until I then ask support to take them out of Review they are not listed for sale and will not sell at Afternic.

@Joe Styler When can we expect Godaddy to take action on Afternic, including implementing 2FA?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
WARNING: That method of disabling fast transfer by re-listing does not really work.

It may seem to work initially, then later stealthily Fast Transfer is progressively re-enabled on domains without you receiving an email with a link to click to enable it. It seems only Afternic "support" can disable Fast Transfer, but they may not even reply to emails.

Some registrars may let you disable Fast Transfer at registrar level, probably a global setting, but that is not possible at Namesilo.

As I said earlier, I now have no confidence in Afternic Fast Transfer and I do not want to use it.

Why not ask Namesilo? I always see the Namesilo opt-in. Alternatively just use a registrar that doesn't support Fast-Transfer if it is such a concern :)

Indeed, Since it domain+account specific setting (fast transfer = enabled would be forever, at least without registrar change), it should be possible to 1) open 2nd afternic account 2) add domain in question to the 2nd account. Not a convinient way, but may be faster (vs. composing emails with uncertain outcome).

Godaddy's new CEO should fly the TOP TEN Afternic/Godaddy seller's to corporate office for a day of discussion - on how to fix Godaddy's giant mess
Who knows, he maybe already doing this. In any case, with such a large company, an outcome of the CEO change would depend on his team. New CEO should almost instantly mean a new team of high-level staff. Actually one should not want (or expect) the CEO to participate in blogs or forums (so he unlikely reading this thread) or to personally deal with each and every customer... not his job. Who will form his team and how will they operate the company - this is the question...

We've just lost a whole year with the buggy new Domain Manager, still buggy,
The new Doman Manager would be perfect and make selling very easy IF it worked. BUT, after several weeks of trying, I have given up listing domains from Domain Manager. Upon suggestion from a support guy, I have resorted to the more stable way of listing domains in Afternic, then go back to Godaddy and set the DNS to ns3.afternic.com and ns4.afternic.com to use the Godaddy/Afternic lander.

For fast transfer to work you have to enable at registrar level a permission called
Why not ask Namesilo? I always see the Namesilo opt-in.

Yes you see an opt-in email when you list a domain, but it seems not when you re-list it. And yet Fast Transfer gets enabled on the re-listed domain.

Valid point about asking NS, but if you ask Namesilo they tell you you can only disable it at Afternic.
Here is why:
https://www.namesilo.com/Support/Change-of-Registrant
Can I opt not to have NameSilo serve as my Designated Agent in relation to these policies?
No, you cannot. All users in our system must agree to our Terms of Service which contains the Designated Agent provision.
At some registrars, for example Internet.bs, you have to actively and probably globally enable the Designated Agent status for your account, which is always necessary before any Fast Transfer is possible. So if you then globally disable it at that registrar, Fast Transfer would be disabled for all domains there.

But at Namesilo you cannot disable Designated Agent status and you cannot disable FastTransfer on a per domain basis. How this works at each registrar is a matter for investigation, as to whether you can, after activating Fast Transfer for a domain or domains, turn that off globally or on a per domain basis at that registrar.

Firstly, Many thanks for your reply Joe, and engaging with the domaining community.
Could I clarify, the new ns3/ns4 landers launched in 2018 aren't part of legacy Afternic are they? They run on AWS, launched recently.

Since 2016 there hasn't been any good reason to use proprietary or 3rd party. It's all Linux, LAMP etc since then.

The redirect anyway is just a redirect, done at the HTTP level, it's one line of code that checks the resolving name, and does an HTTP 302 redirect

ns3/ns4 runs on your AWS server 54.208.77.124 are you in control of this machine to make the changes?

Can this HTTP 302 redirect be logged in mysql?

While Chinese or German speakers may benefit some buyers, all our Chinese or German buyers write to us in English for our portfolio.

This ns3/ns4 has to be the no.1 issue at GoDaddy. We've just lost a whole year with the buggy new Domain Manager, still buggy, our GoDaddy account manger does his best, manually fixing many things, but it's probably wasted 200 hours of our staff time. The old Domain Manager was great, much better. Feels like a lot of time might be being spent on things that aren't a good focus.

Thanks again for engaging with the community.

Let me know if you want me to fly in for a top level meeting! :)
Seriously Joe, Just get it done!

More issues thinking of this morning.

1) you have to disable "Domain by proxy to transfer" Why? This is not required at namesilo.com and others.
2) the error with paying for domains, mentioned in another thread created this morning.
3) the random times when no one can log in and the other random times when you can't even see your domains in your domain manager.
4) Afternic/Godaddy and how they pay so late - they receive money immediately and transfer domain immediately. No reason they can't pay within 48.

Joe, are you able to get GoDaddy Account push bug fixed? If we ever push in bulk, eg 20 names to our other GoDaddy account without copying over the existing whois info, the receiving GoDaddy account cannot click bulk accept, it always fails. That means we must manually type in 20 names contact info (there is no way to use default profile).

A frustrating bug, been there for a long time, account manger couldn't get GoDaddy technical team to fix yet...

All your help appreciated, thank you in advance.

This is where Godaddy fails... the new Domain Manager view is how old? Three/Four months? Maybe more? This problem has been there since they rolled out this new platform.

It is absolutely ridiculous that a large company like godaddy can't fix this right away.

Again, most people have godaddy account, solely because of the Expired Auctions. That's it!

There is a ticket for it with the developers. It looks like it is being worked on. I will bring it up with them today as I have a meeting with that team later on.

Thank you, could you reply when you have a date fix will be available please :)
Also, any news on the other bugs? eg change one domain in a profile, Godaddy emails a lot of bulk emails about every other domain also in the same profile.

Or the bug where add to a profile, and the nameservers are not updated to the ones in the profile. Or the one where forwarding doesn't work, because nameservers are set (even though forwarding set up page says it will amended the nameservers), need to manually change the nameservers back to Godady, wait up to 2 days for that nameserver change to come through via email, and then set the forwarding again....

Last week I bought a domain on Afternic. Everything good, the domain is in my Godaddy account since then.

Two hours ago I received two E-Mails by [email protected] which I already had last week: "[domain] is now yours" and "[domain] Immediate Action Required: Provide Account Details".

No problem for me but it could lead to a bigger bug @Joe Styler .

Hi everyone,
I am having trouble with Afternic and I am hoping someone knows the fix. I listed a bunch of domains there but when I got PART of the verification email from Godaddy for fast transfer, it gave me some kind of error. My domains don't show as fast transfer on Afternic. What should I do? I apologize if this has been asked 5 billion times before... I couldn't find the answer. Thanks in advance for your time.

Why Afternic is making it impossible to manage a large portfolio?!! BTW, this is one of the main reasons why people are favoring new marketplaces such as DAN.com over Afternic and Sedo.

To make it short, here are three issues with managing your portfolio using .csv upload.

1. CSV upload doesn't honor camel case. If you uploaded a file with a domain such as BetterMarketplace.com, it will be listed as bettermarketplace.com.
2. Their system doesn't notify you of how many domains failed to be listed (due to being listed by recent owners) you will have to figure this out yourself. If you tried to figure this out, you will get to the third issue.
3. If your portfolio is larger than 5,000 domains, Afternic will not allow you to download your portfolio. It will ask you to contact Support to get the file.

So, if I tried to add, remove, edit my domains it may take me more than 24 hours to get it done and about an hour work!

Do you know how long does it take to do any of this on DAN.com? A couple of minutes in the worst case. Usually, seconds.

All of these issues can be solved by their development team within minutes but I guess they have something more important to work on. Afternic/GoDaddy, you are working against us, not with us!

If you have more than 5k names you should have a rep who will do the work for you. If you pm me your account info I will have someone contact you.

No one contacted me so far. 400KB file for 6,000 domains is not that large file that I need to contact Support every time I need to update my portfolio or run a quick comparison. Please up the limit to at least 10,000 domains (even though it will be about 700KB file for 10,000 domains). You need to help people save time not waste even more.

Please work on your system a bit. It's the foundation of the whole business. Why GoDaddy keep avoiding this step. How hard is it? At least, solve the issues/bugs as they come. A newbie developer can fix 80% of the issues/bugs you have in Afternic within a day.

Please help us to help you make more money. The only advantage you have is your distribution network and this may change and will change by time. Sooner than you think. Look at all the new marketplaces that have been created over the last few years and their growing sales volumes.

Got this today from AF on a new domain I added yesterday:

Dear xxxxxxxx,

Thank you for submitting your domain name(s) to Afternic for listing. All names submitted to Afternic are run through integrity checks before they are made live for bidding in our extensive domain marketplace.

Afternic verifies the registration of each listing. Unfortunately, we cannot determine proper registration of the following name(s) due to inaccurate data (WHOIS data) associated with their domain name registration:

LocalBooksellers.com

The domain names above have been removed from your Afternic portfolio due to these WhoIs issues.

Except the whois data looks fine. I re-added it to see if it does it again, but don't want to push my luck and get suspended.

Anybody know what they are looking for or seeing that I don't see ?

Yeah we cant tell the domain is owned by you. We are looking for your name on the WHOIS. If its not we need to have you work with us one of several ways to show ownership. It looks like you did this as the domain is active with us now.

Actually I didnt do anything, maybe Dynadot didnt process it properly or something was not completed at the time afternic did a whois. Thank you for the update.

Interesting...received the "Transfer Away" order from DynaDot for a domain of mine that I had listed at Afternic and the domain did in fact fast transfer away to Afternic, but I have not yet received the "Congrats domain has sold via Afternic Fast Transfer DLS" email.

Inside my Afternic account in the Portfolio/All Domains section the domain shows as SOLD, but it is not yet listed among all my sold domains in the Portfolio/Sold section, so I don't yet know what price exactly it sold at...somewhere between the floor and BIN I am sure.

Follow up: the domain did sell for mid four figures, at the full BIN, which is what is most important! However Afternic notes that:

We are currently experiencing a glitch in the system where we are not able to see the case at this time. We do have our developers working on it and we hope to have this issue resolved asap. We can confirm that we see the domain sold and that our TA team will handle the payout for you and will email you with an update as soon as there is one.

so my Afternic Portolio/Sold section is not updating at this time.

I also am having trouble, as usual, getting a different domain to engage for premium/fast transfer even though I have set the BIN and it is fully fast transfer eligible at DynaDot.

I was doing a routine "conflicts check" for my portfolio with afternic (copypasting sets of 50 domains without actually adding them yet), and found a domain which I own for many years, which was recently listed for sale by somebody else. This happened earlier this year I think, since it did not show up as conflicting one last time I performed similar check. This domain is not for sale, and was never listed for sale. So, even though I reported it to service@ and they should delete the conflicting listing, I am wondering what exactly I need to do to make sure nobody else will be able to re-add it, including api customers? This domain is not for sale, so I see no sense to set it as makeoffer or a million dollars BIN. As far as I remember, changing the status from Listed to Hidden would not prevent api customers from adding it :(

The whole afternic website won't load. I just deleted domains and was going to relist them but now the site is unreachable.

Every time I clean cookies and browsing history the message bellow come up again. So, is this a cookie based submission for the parking payment information or it’s already stored in the database, but somehow there’s a sort of bug. Already confirmed 50x ...
