As domain investors, we look at a lot of names. Most we leave, some we buy, and most days we see at least one name that we almost buy (but don't). The reasons vary:
  • It speaks to us personally, but we can't imagine who would buy it.
  • We love the name, but the listed price (or auction price) kills the value.
  • Legal/Trademark concerns stay our hand
Whatever the reason, we just can't bring ourselves to pull the trigger. But... maybe someone else can!

This is the thread to list the names you love and leave, in the hopes they find a home with another willing investor.

The rules:
  1. Only submit one domain per day.
  2. With each submission, tell us: 1) the name, 2) where you saw it, 3) why you love it, and 4) why you left it.
  3. If you buy a domain that someone else listed here, let us know!
Happy investing all!

I'll start!

The name: Bluffable.com

Venue: GD Closeouts ($11 today)

Why I love it: I love poker, and I love the potential for the name to cross into business usage as some kind of a negotiation advice site.

Why I left it: Google search reveals four pages related purely to the definition of this word, and a quick search revealed no existing end users.

*Edit to update: After posting this I checked again, and it appears someone else liked the name enough to buy it!

Nice idea for a thread, but I'm choosing to omit the Why I left it part because we could inadvertently and publicly be diminishing other investors purchases.

The name: SunParty.com

Venue: SnapNames private backorder auction.

Why I liked it: Catchy two word brandable in the entertainment space.

The name: Wide / One

Venue: Name / Com expiring ($10 few days ago)

Why I love it: it is a secret ...

Why I left it: I already own name Huge / One, so I do not need to own everything :)

Thanks Dave! Fair point.

I'm hoping no one will take offense if they already bought the names mentioned... This is all subjective opinion, and critical analysis of names is always a nice learning opportunity for newer members.

I saw xift.com on eBay for upper XXX. I put in an offer of around $400 and was countered with I think about $500 - I sat on it for a few hours and then went to accept, but it had gone. Contacted the seller and the domain had sold. It's now a service!

The name: FaneuilHall.com

Venue: Namejet

Why I love it: It's one of the best known places in one of America's oldest cities. Would lend itself well to a hedge fund name, I thought, or some other service that wants to convey solidity and heritage with its brand.

Why I left it: The priced popped over my set budget. It ended up going for over $600.

The name: TechBux.com

Venue: GD Closeouts ($11 today)

Why I love it: It's short. It's fun and memorable. "Tech" is always a desirable keyword.

Why I left it: No existing end users, and a narrow focus. That being said, if it were "bucks" instead of "bux", I would have scooped it. I just wouldn't have listed it for 50k like the current owner. :)

The name: DampRepair.com

Venue: GD Closeouts

Why I love it: Was surprised to find that it was an exact match term that returned over 10K Google search results. Two or three companies even use the term "damp repair" in their domain name.

Why I left it: The term seems only to be used in Australia and the UK, and businesses that concentrate on this type of work are typically smaller and serve a local area. Would they be that keen to spend much on a domain name upgrade? My gut says no. And if they balk, my end user pool doesn't look very big.
