Travel is big.... and its getting bigger. What travel domains do you own and what kind of value do you think travel domains will have?

Travel domains ending in .travel or .flights would be particularly interesting to see.

Hi Everybody !

Do .travel domain names like one word city name + .travel have a chance to be sold in 2019 from high xxx to low xxxx ? Any feedback from someone here who make a sale like this in the past ?

I've received 3 offers for mine (two after outbound contact from me) , quite low xxx as I consider the name is worth much more but I don't know with my little experience if I do it well so.

I don't own any .travel names but judging by past sales at NameBio it will come down solely to demand.

These are the only comparable sales I found:
miami.travel 400 USD 2019-06-20
ostsee.travel 10,760 USD 2019-03-15
paris.travel 5,950 USD 2017-09-03
puntacana.travel 4,200 USD 2017-04-20
siam.travel 1,240 USD 2016-09-09
mallorca.travel 2,866 USD 2015-06-21
newyork.travel 5,000 USD 2013-05-22
bangkok.travel 2,000 USD 2012-10-17
crimea.travel 5,000 USD 2011-01-18
europe.travel 5,000 USD 2009-03-24

From this I glean that there are 10 recorded sales (of similar names) in 10 years. That's not many.
A premium name like Paris went for only $6k, while Ostsee holds the record at almost $11k! Miami went for only $400. [Obviously there will be some unrecorded sales, but we can't comment on them.]
So, sure - there is the potential of high xxx to low xxxx, BUT you need to consider how often these offers might come up. There is a good chance that if you don't do a deal now you may not get another offer. But that is the risk we take on a lot of domains like this. You might consider doing a deal on 1 or 2 of the domains to cover some costs then hold the better 1 or 2 for a potential pay-day. Just a thought... I'm not sure what you're paying for renewals but last I looked .travel wasn't real cheap - renewal costs should be considered.
All the best.

Thanks for your detailed answer @NicTraders !

I should consider better this little offers so, as you're right : the renewals are expensive. Or even better, on .travel a right website info with good content marketing could be great for increase a value. A spanish company started few yeard ago to buy a large portfolio of city name + .travel and create some simple website infos guide about the destination to attract traffic. Or, use them as a redirect to a .com DN.

Like porto.travel (second biggest city of Portugal) bought for 5,950 USD on 2017-09-03. It redirect to : oporto/com now

Only own one that I got due to a big discount on the regular price and thought it sounded neat. However as you guys are saying, the new extensions that have high purchase/renewal fees are quite unattractive to domainers/most end users, shame as it could be quite popular otherwise

Also, something interesting to see is some popular / profitable companies are - starting?- using .travel domain extension like this one specialized in motorbikes tours around the world: vintagerides.travel

Official tourism office of some countries are also using a .travel:

- vietnam.travel
- colombia.travel
- peru.travel
- poland.travel
- greece.travel

...
Some quick research with cities:

- cartagenadeindias.travel
- vladivostok.travel
- cancun.travel
- krakow.travel
- danang.travel (fifth largest city in Vietnam)
- dublin.travel redirect to ireland.com
- alicante.travel (small but very touristic city of Spain) redirect to shuttledirect.com
- istanbul.travel used by a airport transfert company
- wien.travel redirect to wien.info
- fes.travel redirect to visitmorroco.com
- provence.travel redirect to myprovence.fr (provence = touristic area located in south of france)

It's not only about capitals or countries.

I really think on the potential of .travel but when a minimum developped.

Yes, I noticed that Spanish company quite a lot in the sales lists. It looks like they did ok out of it. But it depends whether you have the time to develop the sites, and the money to pay for renewals. I like the idea of one-word City-name .travel domains but you have to make fairly regular sales to pay for the renewals.
