DAN.COM (formerly known as Undeveloped.com) is on a path to be become the biggest domain marketplace in the world. We use state of the art technology to solve everyday problems buyers and sellers in the domain industry face. At DAN.COM we focus on automating most processes required to buy & sell domains to increase a more efficient and active secondary market for domains.

What sets us apart is our strong focus on product development and customer satisfaction. We leave nothing to chance and every single feature and element we introduce is professionally and carefully designed and built.

DAN.COM is ranked in the top 5 best-rated marketplaces in the world (According to the biggest review platform Trustpilot) and in the domain industry, we're the domain marketplace with the highest rating with an average of 9,4 out of 10 points.

At DAN.COM you will get the highest value for the lowest commission around. Due to our domain transfer automation, we can offer significantly faster handling of domain transactions and payouts (usually within 24 hours) at the lowest fee charged by any domain marketplace.

We've been the first on many fronts and proudly will continue to keep innovating. We were the first to offer optimized for sale pages since 2013, the first to provide payment plans in the form of lease to own and rentals and also the first and only domain marketplace offering free SSL on all domains parked with us for over a year now.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
@LaszloSchenk Regarding the trust issue. I know you have stated this before, but can you again confirm if there really is a marked difference in sales between sellers who create a profile and make it public and those who do not? Thanks.

this is not possible. We already have to cope with a lot of trust issues within this industry. Removing the name, not clearly showing it is a domain owner/company someone is buying a domain from will affect this in a negative way.
Really?
Then how Sedo/GoDaddy/Afternic/Uniregistry etc. sell significantly more domains than you WITHOUT it???

And what trust effect from avatars???
LOL

+ avatar is displayed again in the Description section...
Why this duplication? 1 avatar is not enough???

@carob, this is true. We currently only offer either one of the two. But as indicated several times before. We are working on a complete revamp of our landing pages which will change it completely. Secondly, it is true the domain has to be transferred to our escrow account. As a service, we take care of all renewals with the exception of premium renewals.

Hi thanks for the info. Possibly your revamp will change the rental options - it seems worth making it more fine-grained. Signing off on a fixed rental fee in perpetuity might be something a seller regrets. I have seen a site done by an individual where rental periods incorporate a fixed % rise each year over certain periods. Others have mentioned rent-to-buy.

I can see a buyer/renter would want longer term security to develop a site on a domain.

This fact can be considered when you deal with another party directly...
But here marketplace acts as escrow service.

@frank-germany, so far you are the first to complaint about the usability of activating rentals. You can activate it with one click and set the price with a second click. Not sure how to make this more user-friendly but suggestions are always welcome. Also, we are currently working on a complete revamp of this page. Secondly, regarding the price you might understand that at some point the processing of continuous manual labor surrounding rentals could not be viable below a minimum price. Hence, why we have imposed a minimum of EUR 50 per month.

1) just use a third column
(where you define BIN price and MIN price)

2) add a checkbox that defines if the domain is for rental only ( not purchasable )

when a price is added - rental option will show
when no price is added - no price will show

Not sure if this idea has been floated before, but have you guys considered implementing a checkout timeout for purchases? Sort of similar to most e-commerce where things stay in your cart for up to 30 minutes.

In my experience (60+ sales through Dan and ~10% non-payers) most who do buy pay right away or within hours. I'm sure you have the data to determine average time to pay, and likelihood that someone will pay beyond 24 hours - which I imagine is very low.

I currently have two sales that have been pending payment for about a week and have very little faith will be paid. I would much rather have the names be relisted within 24-48 hours than wait - if they're actually going to buy, they can go back to the BIN and check out.

sometimes payments can take weeks
it's depending on the structure of the buyer
in case it's a huge company
or just a lazy payer

I see some comments about trust, and that comes with the human element, open a sat office from North America, someone who works from home, provide a phone number where you can speak to a human 24/7. I do notice during North American daylight hours, and weekends the timezone changes cause them to be offline, fill this gap. Focus on emerging markets like China, India, have people who speak such languages, and favor their payment methods. Doing these little things will pay off big in sales, and trust.

When I enable the internal redirect in Dan settings - chat widget is displayed OVER language selector...
So both elements are not clearly visible.

Good morning all,

@Embrand, I can confirm this is the case. It fore mostly depends on the quality of the names and pricing. However, we do see a significant difference in leads reaching out to our support with trust issues/verifications before feeling comfortable with proceeding. This is to say that X% would not reach out to us at all causing some sales to slip through your hands.

@Jurgen Wolf, I sense some frustration on your end and not sure what is causing it. However, I am simply answering your questions and remarks here so I do think we could remain professional.

You are absolutely right we are doing everything differently from Sedo, Afternic, and Uniregistry. This is why Sedo is copying our landing pages and many other marketplaces start copying our processes. What I do not understand is that we are discussing a point at which we provide significantly more options to you while your statement indicates that not having any options at all is preferred.

It is a rather useless statement saying they sell more as these are established companies for decades already. However, we are the fastest growing and large portfolio holders using our platform experience over a 20% increase in total revenue while using us. Don’t you agree that this is far more important?

Not sure what your point of view is, but to me, it is quite logical that a buyer would find a listing with a company/person behind it and a visible company logo more trustworthy as opposed to a listing without any information about the owner. That trust effect is what I am referring to.

@carob, thank you for the suggestions and I will make sure to forward it to our product team.

@frank-germany, completely agree and it has not been added yet as we are revamping the page. Both options will be made possible.

@Nametree, we have something else on the roadmap that should significantly reduce the time lost on none-payers. Besides, I understand such an assumption exists. However, we do capture still quite some payments after the first 24-48 hours which is why we keep chasing them. An example of a payment that came through just yesterday. The agreement was reached on the 10th of October and I have been chasing this high $XXXX sale without receiving any notice. It turned out the buyer was on a business trip and was able to submit the payment just yesterday. By changing this structure the buyer would not have bought the domain at all.

@wwwweb, we completely agree but do want to keep a certain quality of service. We are working towards this but it will take time to set it up just how we like it.

Have a great weekend!

Simple explanation, private profiles do not receive the same level of exposure as public profiles. Thats domaining 101: Build you own mini marketplace. All your domains on DAN are little backlinks to your public profile.

This is why Sedo is copying our landing pages and many other marketplaces start copying our processes.
First very similar landers were introduced by former Bodis marketplace many years ago.
And first feedbacks by me and other domainers were sent to Sedo regarding this matter.

And my question is still unanswered - why one more and significantly bigger avatar in the domain description???
1 is not enough? You sell avatars or domains???

Actually, thats a scientifically proven fact:

<<LINK REMOVED (account is restricted from posting links)>

It’s a scientifically proven fact that most keyboard warriors don’t read even the first page of the papers they quote.

The study used “photo-realistic avatars”, I don’t think your ms paint skills are that good.

The 'avatars' used in your paper:

People use DAN because it means they don’t have to trust the other party. Trust is built by the platform, through it's reputation and service.

The stats on the front page “$100M+ DOMAIN SALES”, Trustpilot score and real staff profile photos are what inspires confidence.

Yes, DAN could make these signals more prominent. Add gold stars, paypal / payment processor logos and trade associations. Perhaps some in-depth blog guides for buyers/sellers new to domains, and business posts explaining why domain names are so important (with real DAN customer case studies).

The focus needs to be on domains and customer experience. I think the member profiles devalue the platform, many names sound scammy and the garish logos / colors ruin the clean site. Look at amazon, 50% of sales are by third parties, most customers don't even realize.

Unnecessary elements or styling by the seller might distract / influence, and ultimately lead to lower sales. The user profile block takes up half the page before showing any domains.......let's remember that DAN is not a social networking site for domainers.

So the search still sux, lets just say I want to extract all premium one word COMs with their prices from DAN database - currently its impossible to do so while its a trivial, several hours programmer job to implement missing functionality. Sorry, but search sux in general too. No offence - I want the marketplace to improve. Same thing with Sedo BTW, and to the lesser extent, with godaddy(afternic).

I can recall the failed Bido marketplace (in terms of enduser sales)... it still exists (just for domainers)...
They also tried to build some kind of social network...

It’s a scientifically proven fact that most keyboard warriors don’t read even the first page of the papers they quote.

The study used “photo-realistic avatars”,
The study used photo-realistic avatars, because in this day and age it is much easier to generate multiple fake photos than to obtain consent of multiple living people to use theirs. I don't understand what is this statement of yours supposed to disprove, but the way you enter an otherwise calm and friendly conversation with your condescending remark implying other people can't read something and calling them "keyboard warriors" – do you realize the only "keyboard warrior" here is you?

Back to topic, it can be seen that you and and @Jurgen Wolf are the type of people who just don't get avatars, since you don't use them on NP. However, that does not change the fact that most people do get avatars and use them. A random image to express yourself, a logo/brand, or your own photo, these three major categories can be observed on NP as well as on Dan (and everywhere else on the internets where avatars are supported).

One of the greatest things about Dan is that their rules allow to have multiple seller profiles. Domains can be bundled into categories under nicknames constituting themes or brands and corresponding logos in avatars. Sellers can be neutral (with nickname like "domain seller" and simple color avatar), sellers can go with their personal brand, sellers can use their real name and photo, or combine all of these for various parts of their portfolios. I wouldn't use real name and photo for "adult" domains, for example. For the controversy-free and most expensive domains, on the contrary, it looks like a good idea. Read my name, look me up on LinkedIn, behold my awesomeness and realize that everything is dead serious about these domains.

Although I agree, it wouldn't be bad to give the no-avatar people the ability not to have them on their landers at all. However, you need to take into consideration that plenty of domain buyers, not only on Dan, but everywhere else, believe they buy the domain from the very site where they get it (and people who buy domains through MLS believe they acquire it from their registrar). You can see it in Trustpilot reviews – many people genuinely think they purchased their domain from Dan itself. So it is not in Dan's interest to completely depersonalize sellers, since they won't even have a chance to explain to their customers that its not their own fault in cases where sellers fail to provide.

I don't use ANY unnecessary things, this is applicable to my life entirely.

And marketplace must be a marketplace.
At least it must be configurable... per individual needs.

Anybody else experiencing a delay in payment? I sold a name at BIN like a week ago. Domain transferred in a day but no update on the payment as of yet nor on the transfer status.

Usually I get notified of the payment straight away and it's in the bank in a day or so.

I am new to DAN and still looking for my way to sell domains on this marketplace, that´s why I follow this controversal and creative discussion with interest.

If people think and are happy they purchased from DAN then I would believe that the DAN BRAND is the most important element to create trust and shopping joy. I cannot imagine that the fact where I come from, how old I am or my Avatar photo are able to improve potential buyers´ mood. This can be helpful at Namepros but probably isn´t even there. Who has recognized if they asked themselves that my Avatar photo is from my Federal Chancellor, thought as a smiling hint where I com from. And if so, is it worth anything.

I would be shocked that buyers aren't scared off with considering spending thousands and they message a support that isn't available 24 hours or weekends,
has this changed? sorry I have not read the entire thread.

Anybody happen to know if this is a real person or some other type of account:

Privater Verkäufer
Member since 2018-11-22
means private seller

Had some names not getting uploaded because still in their name, some hand regs and noticed they have some nice names like 27.com, the.com, six.com, all kinds of 3 letter .coms etc. all different registrars. Then some truly horrific names, so it doesn't seem like 1 person's account. Maybe all the private seller's names or something.

I have never had a problem a Dan.com or its earlier name. rather it is BIN or offer/counter offer preceding, it has always been very very smooth with a simple push to Dan escrow and payment received as soon the buyers funds are verified. only a 9% fee is taken, Its a pretty incredible service!

A huge shout out to @Dan.com and @LaszloSchenk for making it feel so good!!
