Any thoughts on potential value of these types of domains in the future?
I think with CRISPR and other gene editing technology making such big waves there may be some value in gene related domains

what's the thoughts on that price?

While the science purist in me likes the name since it is really the Cas9 way to implement CRISPR that made the big leap possible, CRISPR already is commonly misspelled and adding Cas9 makes it even more difficult for general public. I could see a company that offered technical services re CRISPR or a research group liking the name, but I personally would hesitate a long while paying that much when I consider probability of sale, likely holding period and the likely end price. But who knows. To me CRISPR in .io, which sold for less, is a better acquisition.

Thanks so much for the stats re CRISPR domains, @Kemal G. I agree that in general it is a long term hold probably for most names. I am sure there will be a market here, if one waits, but less sure whether that market will draw heavily on the acronym CRISPR, the acronym DNA, or more general wording.

I agree. It will be a long waiting game, but I only have one.

This was just published in Nature by a research team with high scientific policy credentials. They looked at how CRISPR is viewed in the North American popular press. In general, fairly positively and mainly overlooking unrealistic hype. Details at link:

Not much activity in this thread of late. I don't think it has been pointed out but there were a couple of related sales listed on NameBio in 2019
  1. CRISPRCas9 (com) sold for $1450
  2. CRISPRTech (com) for $744
Earlier CRISPR (io) had sold for $509 and some time ago CRISPR (com) apparently sold for $75,000 although not in NameBio. Still a pretty light record of sales, although of course a number with DNA, genetic, genome, etc. in them.

I was lucky to pick up the single word genotyped (com) as a hand reg today (it had been registered on and off during last 10 years, perhaps by someone reading this thread.

About a week ago a 5 year partnership between the co-discoverer of CRISPR (Jennifer Doudna) and industry giant Glaxo to seek solutions in cancer, the immune system and neuroscience.

I still think at some point the right domain names in this area of biotechnology will have value, but it is hard determining how specialized they will be and when that will happen.

What do other people think?

We took a more product name approach to our CRISPR .com domain names. We envisioned biomedical manufacturers creating special tools, devices, or products with CRISPR in the brand names:

Most of the above are plays on "crisper" as in clearer or more in focus.

No interest in any of them as of yet.

That is a very nice combination gene + life. Congratulations! Is it standard or premium renewal, @Jimmysun

Hi Bob, thank you, It's the only one related to gene science I got, it is standard renewal, the registrar I am using is about only $8 per year.

so what's the thoughts on that price?
I know this was asked a long time ago, but imho the price was high for such a technically specialized word, especially if wholesale buy by a domainer.

On the other hand, I was surprised that the acronym CRISPR in .io did not go for more given that it sold for $75k in .com apparently. I think those of you holding .org in this if the words are good will eventually do alright, but it may still take years.

I have MedicalCRISPR which Epik stats tell me gets a fair amount of people checking the Whois (more than all but one of my other domains with them) but not a single offer in the almost 3 years I have held it. Now it is true that I have done almost nothing other than listing and lander to try to sell it :xf.sick:.

You have great names @URLtrader and I know you had at least one major sale in this niche. Are you getting inquiries on the others on a regular basis, if you feel free to comment.

Good point. I think DNA will be the stronger play, but CRISPR does appear to have 246,000 searches on the Googs. Not bad.

Don't know if CRISPR will pan out as the official name for all things gene related.

Having said that, I handregged GeneEdition//com earlier this year during those handreg competitions we had then. Was surprised that it was even available.

EarlyEdition.com sold this week which I will take as a comparative to GeneEdition as I see it along the same lines of appealing to an online publication/magazine (on genetics) as well as to gene editing startups

Yes, CRISPR in .org will make a lot of sense if the word finally takes off

Hot tech, but not a good domain keyword. Hard to pronounce, and very technical.
