Anyone here using NameSilo and Epik? How does Epik compare to NameSilo? Interested in hearing from those with hands-on experience regarding pros and especially cons with consideration for the following:

- I don't want domain privacy

- not interested in their "marketplaces"

- not interested in registrar's DNS management / domain parking

- not interested in ccTLD's and new gTLD's offerings

- interested in admin panel convenient for managing domains in the thousands

- interested in robust multiple sub-accounts / user management

- interested in reselling

- interested in convenient domain "push" process between accounts

So far leaning towards Epik because of their competitive, fixed standard .COM pricing (for NP members), proactive "can do" support and domaining-centric environment and suite of additional services

*** Note: NOT INTERESTED in any other registrars - already have accounts with and tried most of them out and formed an opinion ***

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Yes, we actually have plans to update the front-end of our site during 2017 - it certainly has gotten pretty dated on us :)
Is this still in the works?

Yes, still something we are looking at. We have some other things ahead of this project on our priority list, but is still something we are seriously considering.

@namesilo

Any plans to add whois lookup/ip logs? epik has this feature.

It's quite useful. Thanks

At some point I lost myself, i mean, a lot of information from everywhere, but, there was a detail that among all the registrars that made the difference to me, you can talk to a person for any emergency...I mean, I know we are all people here... but.. for me

this is personal care.

.Even epik chat is personal for me (what i feel). I want personal involvement,

It's like, - Hey bro.. I give you my domains in your hands.

And from the other side.. - I will do everything I can to help you. ( this sentence is a proven fact for me with Epik and Rob. )

So I start moving all my domains progressively today...

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

If you look at their win/loss analysis, they seem to have noticed that Epik is their biggest leak:

https://www.namesilo.com/transfer_compare.php

I expect that number to go up a lot and then perhaps the report goes away. However, the good news for them is that Godaddy is hemorrhaging domains and so there is plenty of opportunity to grow.

That said, I think the NameSilo guys have a challenge ahead. They have a price-centric approach which starves innovation. On top of that, they are massively levered. See here:

https://www.sedar.com/DisplayCompanyDocuments.do?lang=EN&issuerNo=00009489

I think their best chance is to be acquired by Godaddy. I think they know that. I would be fine with that outcome.

I didn't know people could do that. Going to be careful whoising Epik-based domains now, since it may give their owners some big idea.

Like most internet users out there nowadays, my internet connection is using dynamic IP, which may change like daily. So when I am interested in a domain and checking its WHOIS again and again for a while, thinking whether I should approach the owner with an offer, the owner may see that as queries from many different IPs and think that maybe there is some kind of huge corporation being interested in this domain, while its just me. And then they'll ignore my humble domain reseller offer, thinking that they could be about to receive one from a huge corporation :xf.eek:

Wow, I am not exactly an accountant, but the latest financial filing from NameSilo does not look good at all. Should us with domains there be worried?

I would not be too worried. I think they are executing a gutsy strategy but the downside is contained as long as the debt holders cooperate. If you are concerned, just watch the stock price. If it starts trading down on heavy volume, or you see insider selling, might be time to pivot. In the meantime, those cheap .COM registrations are there for the taking, so have at them. Just be clear on your plan for where you will hold the domains that you think are strategic or have stronger after-market potential. I would treat any first year hand-reg as a 1 year tasting cycle. You can register those anywhere.

Why do we have a thread Epik vs NameSilo? I like them both. They both have great prices, nice tools for domainers, different but great landers, marketplaces with fair commissions, offer a good array of different TLDs, and treat customers fairly and are responsive. Yes, in each of those you can argue for one being stronger right now. But why do we have this vs this threads?

I don't see the world as an us and them. But maybe I am out of touch.... when I listen to the news the world seems to not think like me.

Yup I too have the same Question?

This is a useful whois check stuff created to be helpful for Domainers at Epik yet would this stuff not mislead people

Actually the huge corporation is the one that likely has fixed IP or whose staff likely use VPNs with fixed IPs. Those are the ones that are interesting. The private citizen with a consumer ISP is the one with dynamic IP. So, what we are looking for is the repeat visits from the same IP. That is what we highlight in orange or red. It is a useful diagnostic, among others that you find in the "Performance" tab. We have an internal "Domain Quality Index" score that we are considering to start publishing as a sortable attribute to help Pro domainers quickly assess "keep or toss".

NS stopped catering to domainers the second they got bought out. They have had one spectacular registering sale price since that time (a few months back). No transfer sales, slower replies to tickets, no great BlackFriday offerings. Even Namecheap has its annual very cheap transfer sale. Dynadot is way more competitive than NS in frequent sales especially registrations.

where can I find that kind of information about epik?

We are private. That said, we are capital efficient, majority controlled by management, and have de minimis outside debt. Our 2018 tax return showed that we are profitable despite heavy investment in development.
