I was speaking with @DomainGraduate over the weekend and this morning about the topic of retargeting. We have people coming to our SSL landers and that network is going to get pretty big in relatively short order. To maximize sales conversions for sellers, we also want to be able to remind prospective buyers that a domain they checked out recently is still for sale.

In researching retargeting, the options within Google, their solutions seems pretty locked down on the creatives. However, within Facebook I routinely see exact items I checked on Amazon being once again served up for consideration. So, clearly it is possible to do specific re-targeting. If there are some experts out there that can shed some light on this topic, please share or PM me for a contract project to help us figure this out!

The alternative would be to create a smart advertising network and get direct publishing partners to deploy our Smart Ads and pay them enough for ad performance to keep them engaged long enough for an independent ad network to gain critical mass. That particular scenario is more than I want to take on right now but it was the reason for securing the domain name "TargetedNetworks.com" a while back.

Oh yeah .. that stuff is truly amazing. Most definitely amazingly advanced technology.

I believe we are going to keep being amazed in the next couple of decades as we have entered a new era in human progress which will explode exponentially once AI starts to be creative and innovative on its own. I just hope that Humanity can keep up with its social and environmental progress at the same pace. Human brain is more like a quantum computer which is part of a natural network of life that includes most intelligent life forms on earth which together have created a powerful force unmatched by anything that technology has to offer so far in terms of intellect although AI is catching up fast. The infusion of this natural network with AI will hopefully result in a force for good that can save humanity and this planet in the near future, so it doesn't have to be all bad. IMO

PS: as interesting as this conversation is, but we better get back on topic of this thread. IMO

It will be definitely helpful; especially in certain type of niches. May be brandables, names with logos, short names. It is difficult for end-user to fall in love with a brandable name immediately. It takes time to dawn in and the name to get sticky. Retargeting i see can be very helpful in such cases. May be buyers will get the brand recall and validate the application of the name over time.

I once visited the SquadHelp marketplace, looking out for the type of domains they have in their inventory.

Since that day, even till today, SquadHelp listed domain Ads follow me on most of the pages I open up on the web for doing any kind of research.

So yes, it's pretty interesting and I feel it will help in more domain sales in due course.

@Rob if you set this up with Google Ads. I will quickly move entire portfolio to Epik and devote my life to promoting others to do the same.

My first year researching this but I suggest look into a new beta plugin. The very first one created by Google
Called (SiteKit) for wordpress. This if any would be your tie to automate from individual landing page to Google Tag Manager.

Costs. I'm not sure how you would cover it on your own. But if you give us ability to set a adwords retargeting tag on individual landers so we could manage our own adwords account. I'd be amazed and grateful.

You would conquer this industry fast.

No .. the creepy stuff is when you see ads for stuff you've been THINKING about but haven't actually actively searched online for! lol

thats the true issue !!

You need to think a little more about the potential adverse effects of doing this before saying a definite No

Are they going to see Epik.com in those ads and how is that going to affect the Epik brand for people who are not comfortable with this.

the negative effects are at least acceptable
for all the big companies

so why should it be less acceptable to me?

As @Xabial already mentioned which I agree with we should be "Cautiously Optimistic" about the idea of Targeting, but we should consider all its effects to make sure that it doesn't produce any negative results. If the majority of people find it acceptable and are not bothered with the ads following them around then perhaps Targeting could be tested on a trial run, but you have to be careful as to not taking a gamble with your Brand and not to risk alienating some potential customers. IMO

Ads = Standard practise imho.

Those who dislike can use blockers or stop using the free internet that all those who are hosting pay for. Server space

@Rob so what's the plan : ) ?

We staffed a research project in the group of @vitigo to investigate ad retargeting using Facebook. We think that is the place to start. However, beyond that, we are prepared to contemplate a more ambitious solution for retargeting. As usual, I expect we'll crawl, walk, run and deliver the base hit quickly.

It might not be that far off, AI can already interpret your brain neural activity.

Add facial recognition from the many visual recorders that follow one and you will have a nagging advertiser suggesting headache tablets every time you frown because you are thinking about something else you have to do.

<< Walking down Regents Street, London... "Buyxxx, why not xxx, xxx are on sale 30%"... "Oh dear you look like you need these award winning headache tablets!"... you look up in dismay and sigh... The underside of an aircraft that just took off from Heathrow greets you by name and suggests you need a holiday to Barbados. You step off the pavement and almost get run over by a Tesla which warns you that you might be suffering from dehydration and offers to drive you to a Deli in the vicinity. >>

From my pending dystopic advertising novel.

I don't know that much about where you live in London and what advertisements you are subjected to when you take a walk in your neighborhood, but what I was talking about as far as AI reading your mind goes beyond anticipatory advertising that might be based on your searches and personal habits, what I meant was that AI can read and communicate with your mind directly, so for example the little voice in your head that prompted you to make your post is going to be accessible by AI perhaps without you even being consciously aware of it. So AI can peal all the layers of protection that you might have created for yourself and look right into your soul. Your employer can use AI to see if you are really loyal to the company that you work for or your spouse can use it to find out if you really love her or not. And the scary part is that all these can be done without your knowledge. Technology is a double sided sword that can be used to serve humanity or it can become misused and abused by those who don't want to respect other people's privacy. IMO

I understood what you meant. It inspired me to comment along the same lines.

No I don't live in London or the UK. I was just saying that the potential to do what I wrote is already present today.
