If your company decided on being on a name and it was one particular word, no alternatives and nothing added Just this one word. The .com is taken and not for sale. This is for a business looking to do business worldwide not just it's local country. What extension are you going with?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The 2 top vote getters are .net and .co which goes along with what companies actually are going with as well. Many past threads on this, I picked a random one, crypto from last year:

com - 42
net - 4
co - 2

org - 3
io - 2
cc - 1
all the new gltds combined.................0

Nice try but - https://namebio.com/?s==IjMwcTM3MjM

Last 100 reported crypto sales, 0 new gtlds, mostly com, some org, io etc. Then see poll above. All the startup threads we've had here, it's always been about 2% startups going with a new gtld, very low.

Oh, I see, your stats are for Last 100 reported sales with keyword "crypto" - yes indeed, there are 0 new gTLDs, confirmed.

But honestly, if you see the average price achieved, this is not so impressive :)

My first post was from last year, I linked to the thread, Jan 2018. You post made me check the current sales as well. Really seeing the same stuff year after year, what I added to my last post:

"All the startup threads we've had here, it's always been about 2% startups going with a new gtld, very low."

You can always find some random sales in any extension, but the overall picture is pretty bleak.

Startups are just minority of endusers.
And very significant % of them is dying within few years, even if millions were invested.

Without a .com, my company would span the dot. The 'left' would fit well with the 'right', perhaps even refining the idea of a single word+word to encompass the reality of my business!

There would probably be no, or few other strong alternative for copy-cats. The extension isn't more likely to be .online than .biz, .domains, or single one. The domain would be the best short description relating to my venture interests.

Voted "other"...
Noticed ".us" but no ".de", ".in" ".ca" etc...

Exactly that :)

What extension are you going with?

I guess i'm going with the hair extensions

used to hate them, back in the day
but now, everywhere you go, there they are

was in the store the other day and this woman in front of me flipped her extensions around
and if i hadn't ducked, they would have slapped me upside the head.

now how can you not go with something, that's staring you right in the face

I also like .org too

:)

imo….

That's across the board, high failure rate everywhere. But it's not only startup stats. Going with the information at hand:

1. Anytime we've had a what are startups using thread, it was about 2% of startups using new gtlds

2. See example above. I picked 2 of the hottest keywords, crypto and cannabis. Combined stats, last 200 reported sales, 1 new gtld.

3. See the daily sales being posted at Namepros, most recent one -

gTLDs - 171
ccTLDs - 7
New gTLDs - 0 - this is what is usually looks like

https://www.namepros.com/threads/animatorexpo-com-sold-for-11-805-999996-com-for-7-500.1158589/

There is no spinning that as good.

.co is supposed to be the best choice for a company (after .com) but I voted for .net

The reason is that .co can easily lose a lot of traffic to the .com version, that is because .co url can easily be mistyped as .com, there is only one letter (m) difference between the 2 extensions , also people are used to type .com which will increase the chance of mistyped url.

Worse than losing traffic is mistyped email address which may lead to losing customers how want to contact the company.

Anyone using dot-co for their business is giving lots of free traffic to the .com site with same nam . Not sure what the percentage of traffic bleed is but it likely significant. Instead of doing that i would best to make offer on the dot.com

It' hard enough being successful online and traffic is extremely valuable so why give it away free to someone else who thinks .co must be a typo so instead they go to .com

Also if the visitor checks what .co ext is they see it is the nation of Columbia which may raise a few red flags itself. Due to those reasons .co would be one of my last choices if I was running a new startup website.

I sold 13 handreg non-premium nTLDs as of today, they have no any relations to crypto or cannabis.
$1K+ per domain on average.

Great, doesn't change anything I posted.

I can also add, that I live without NameBio or any other similar site.

I would go for .net if I was using the domain for my own business and it was a common one word that suited my business.

This poll shows only votes of domainers...
Actual enduser preferences differ significantly... they also very depend on niche and country.

Exactly. I am trying to look at this from the perspective of an end user. I am a contractor specializing in Data Analytics across a multitude of sectors. I was thinking if I wanted Analytics.com but it was taken, what would I go for? I would quite like to use Analytics.net.

Few years ago I caught the same .PRO
Was $10K inbound offer on it from the US individual... and few other 4F bids from Russia, Poland etc.

If I aim for premium keyword assuming the TLD taken I am going for what would bring next amount of generic traffic or lead. eg: If targeting glass it would be on GEO due to breakage. If targeting cars perhaps online might be a good extension or buy both. The poll doesn't allow for a more creative gtld. If most searches are 2 words and the second is available in a gtld seo may be stronger with gtld than trying to pick first word with next strongest extension sold.
