Has anyone been reading up on Fog Computing recently? Cisco have brought it to the table to aid the Internet of Things (again).

Anyway, don't know much about it and it's yet another new buzz word to appear this year but I'm starting to get 'registration fatigue'

so feel free to look it up and see what's available, although I was surprised at how many FOG related domains have already gone. My two are:

FogServers.com

Fog360.com

I just checked to see what I have left and I haven’t got any! Same with IOT, if there’s not enough traction in three years or so I tend to lose interest.

Trying to see who is still investing in fog, I really don't see anything about this anywhere. I have not read one instance of fog in use by a big company.

Not saying there is none but definitely not commonplace and not in the news.

Anyone dropping theirs or holding on?

dropping mine
'Fog' got totally destroyed by 'Edge' which is aesthetically better and also sounds more related to the actual technology imo

Open + xxx is a good combination, like OpenAI, OpenStack, OpenCloud ..

BTW, OpenFog Consortium was merged to IIConsortium now.

Also, the IEEE Standards Association has adopted the OpenFog Consortium’s OpenFog Reference Architecture for fog computing.

Seriously though....

If this thread has shown us anything it's that fog, edge, whatever you want to predict is weak at most.

Cloud still seems to be the term to beat, I think odds are better at selling the word cloud with a variant or second word added than any of the new terms.
