Do we need an easier way to report verified transactions?

  • This poll is still running and the standings may change.
  • Yes but just work with NameBio and be done

At Epik.com, we have a long history of not reporting sales. We did this because we believe that our first duty is to protecting the registrant's interests, and that includes the right to privacy by default.

Recently the pressure to report sales has been on the increase. We are definitely the leader in domain leasing. We are almost certainly the leader in crypto-escrow though that is harder to verify.

Last week, we completed a $253K domain sale for a 2-word domain. This transaction will likely not be announced. However, it is still verified and a useful comparable and data point even if confidential.

So, I am considering the following:

1. Make it easy for customers who complete transactions to report their sales, i.e. directly to NameBio, and potentially other groups that have reporting APIs. This is only for verified transactions that clear on Epik.

2. Make it easy for customers who complete verified transactions above some threshold level, e.g. $10,000 to also notify a distribution list of people who care about such things, e.g. bloggers such as DNJournal

I am looking for feedback and ideas.

You could integrate anonymous transactions value into Epik marketplace seller profiles or something.

SuperMegaDomainer sold $27400 worth domains total, $8700 this year

SuperMegaDomainer will be able to brag about his sales confirmed by Epik without breaching the privacy agreement.

Verified sales (with NO data as to seller or buyer unless BOTH agree) of domains will achieve what we all want...higher sale prices. Rob has more access to data than most and could comment on my assumption, but I would say the vast majority of sales reported are at the lower end of the spectrum for several reasons.

Posting sales (like the above mentioned 200+ sale) will lift the awareness of buyers as to the true value of a good/great domain name.

Yes, we need a comprehensive/combined sales report on a weekly basis to ensure the pricing of our inventory is neither too high nor too low.

Hello Rob. If you report the sales made through your company that will help the domain industry and your own company to grow.

If you complete a $253K domain sale for a 2-word domain, and you report it, this would be for itself a priceless publicity for Epik and an incentive for other domainers to use your platform for their sales.

I see this like the reason why Sedo and Uniregistry report their sales.
The more domain sales you report, the better will be for your company and for the whole industry.
If you want to attract domainers to place their names for sale there, the best is to show them that your platform works, and the best form to do this is by showing the sales made through it.

You just can place a checkbox, on the domain listing process, where the domainer agrees to publicly report the domain sale. Even you could give some kind of incentive for this, like some kind of fee reduction or points, in your case Masterbucks.

Hope this helps!
