Folks,

I got inbound inquiry for a domain that I am holding, the inquirer is a CEO of a startup and wants to acquire the domain...currently his company uses another name. i responded back asking him to make a offer, but did not hear back...

The name that hold is highly valuable to his company. what do you recommend? I hold until their company becomes bigger and they come back for it then?

Company reported 3.8 million dollars in revenues for Q4

regards

Patience is the most important virtue of being a domainer.

You need to remember that while your domains are the most important thing to you, it isn't for most potential end users. So while it's important to keep touch with potential buyers and not let the lead go cold, it's also important to not seem too desperate or too pushy. Finding the balance isn't easy because the timing works for one end user, might be completely different from another.

That being said .. a good trick is to write your reply but not send it ... then wait a day and go over/edit/streamline your reply again .. use the time to simplify your response.

Unfortunately in the end there is no right answer. Every potential buyer is different .. more importantly, sometimes the sale might not go through for completely unrelated reasons and things completely beyond your control. This whole thing really sucks when you're looking for one of your first sales .. but as you make more and more sales, the irony is that it becomes almost a non-issue .. if the sale was meant to be, then an early or late response probably won't change the outcome either way.

That being said .. do give enough time for you to write your response at least once, wait X amount of time, then go back and edit .. the content of your reply is way more important than the timing of it.

Good luck with it! :)

First off congrats! That's awesome news!

Sometimes, busy people can take a while to write you back it's just the way things are. If he does make an offer, I think you still have to have some type of figure in your mind that you would be happy to sell for.

Give it a few weeks and follow up to see if they are still interested. You don't want to seem too desperate but you also want to let them know that you are serious and would like to get a deal done.

Good luck with the potential sale!

Anytime, your welcome. I also forgot to mention you should look into something that tracks your emails that are opened. I use Hunter.io for gmail. Just good to see if an email is being opened on the other end or being ignored.
