As many folks here know, the Epik SSL landers are becoming very popular. Why? Because they look good and because they convert better than anything else we have seen. They also continue to improve and become more versatile. If you don't know what these are, see this thread or refer to the Epik how-to article.

One of the challenges, we may eventually encounter is that we are generating a great deal of SSL certificates -- tens of thousands per day on some days -- as domains move to Epik and use our free SSL lander service. These SSL also get renewed at no cost. The result is a fast-growing volume of SSL issuance.

So, looking ahead, we think it is likely that we will need to become our own CAA root authority. However, this will not happen as "Epik", but rather as a stand-alone brand similar to Komodo, Thawte, or other SSL root authority. We now need to select a great brand name for a SSL cert brand.

Our proposed solution will start by issuing free high grade certificates with 4096-bit SSL that is also optimized to work well with the Anonymize VPN and across the forthcoming Toki.com free WiFi network. For anyone interested, the likely protocols are ECDSA, AES-256-CFB, or SHA512.

Criteria:

- .COM
- Not more than 12 letter SLD
- 1-2 words
- Max of 3 syllables
- Brandables are fine but must pass "radio test"

Budget, Process, and Timing:

As we have been doing here on NamePros, we'll select finalists within 7 days and run a poll of finalists. I expect that we could pay in excess of $5,000 for a solid brand candidate and complete the purchase after the poll finishes. We don't always select the poll winner but use the poll and comments as a guide.

If people want to suggest hand-registrations, please register them at Epik.com. If you want to make a private suggestion, Epik can register it and pay a finders-fee for a winning name. If your name is not selected as the winner, you can then claim the domain for free if we don't pay the finder-fee. This way anyone can participate.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I would recommend EncryptName.com. Thats a solid brand.

A the top of the thread it says withing 7 days...I think I just saw a post about a poll tomorrow...can we please be a little more exact as to timing? Seems to me the longer time frame would allow more submissions which should lead to better options.

While Let's Encrypt seem pretty dominantly established, admire the innovation of yet another initiative, Rob.

I have DMed one possible suggestion for name.

The product will be useful for extensions like .App

.APP
extension is a secure namespace and needs HTTPS and an SSL certificate for your website to load on most browsers. Due to these SSL requirements, domain forwarding is not supported for .APP domains. If more extensions follow the same route. It will be good to get SSL landers for domain investors.

As for the eventual poll, it is a dull knife but it helps separate the wheat from the chaff. It also lets smart naming experts share the logic and approach as a public teaching forum. I really like that.
Yeah .. it's perfect like that .. as long as it's clear the poll is just a tool and one part of the process (which you have done above), then I think the abuse and non-genuine voting will be much lower. For the commentary I'd still prefer it in a sheltered forum so that when we discuss the pros/cons of names, the cons mentioned in public don't end up hurting the value of other people's domains.

Although it's actually possible these listing/auction/requests forums are indeed protected and not indexed by Google .. I'm honestly not sure .. plus I'm not even sure if commentary on domains is "officially" allowed here (it's not allowed in NP auctions/sales threads), although I'm thinking "management" might be willing to make an exception because it seems to be implied with your contests .. lol .. more importantly openly discussing both pros and cons of the candidates is where you'll get the best pulse on which are the most appropriate domains for your project! :)

Epik recently acquired DNProtect.com. DNEncrypt.com enables Epik to stay aligned in branding. Different LOB, but same Epik family and quality offering.

DNProtect.com is a great name for the intended use: Risk assessment and Insurance.

For a product to challenge Thawte, Comodo (spelling!), and LetsEncrypt, we have better options.

Timing-wise, I believe poll of finalists to follow later today assuming I can get through the submissions.

EncyrptSpace.com works on a few different levels. e.g.:
  • A space where SSL certificates can be created and issued.
  • Encryption of your space i.e. wesbsite
  • Just sounds cool :)
2 dictionary words that make sense together and relate to the offering. 3 syllables, 12 letters. 2 keywords that would work well for SEO.

SuperbSSL.com. Sounds superb due to the alliteration and therefore it is easy to remember. Also Superb is a positive word that means good, best or great!
