I just got an email saying that My.com gaming division will move to My.games

Here is the email:

Greetings!
You have received this email since you are a registered My.com user. We are happy to inform you that My.com games will soon be moving to our new gaming platform: MY.GAMES Store.

We are doing everything we can to make the transition of all registrations and accounts as safe and smooth as possible. All your achievements and game progression will be transferred, and no data will be lost.

The launch of MY.GAMES Store will happen in several stages. More and more games will become available through MY.GAMES Store, as well as services and tools that we did not have on the current platform.

Thank you for staying with us!

overstock and o.co all over again?

LOVE IT when sizable companies, even charities, use 'alternate' domains. Rising tide lifts all ships, right?

I think that now there will be a bunch of people hand-reg a lot of .games domains just because of my.com did it.

This will be a mistake.
My.games is an exceptional domain and most likely .games registry domain sale.
"My Games" is a great combination and there are only a few .games domains on this level.
I won't be purchasing any .games domains.

Video. Games

Was bought about 2 years ago ish

A. Com is only superior to a Gtld if the industry and or service sector isn't available as a Gtld

But in the my. Com example the company being in the games sector and. Games being a Gtld etc the company made an upgrade from a multi million dollar
LL. com to a world class gtld

My. Games

Gtld

Puts

My games

Company

In the games sector in Google ranking automatically which has still gives the company a two letter website which they had before and probably still own but
My. Com does not put my. Com In the games sector in Google ranking because
. Com doesn't translate to mean (games) in any language

. Com is nothing more than a globally recognised website address extension

And that's all it is

Companies that want free organic seo in their industry or service sector will buy the industry or service sector Gtld if it is available irrespective of how impressive and or valuable their current website address is as this example was already using a multi million dollar website

Gtlds are the future

That said I still own and recognise the value in keyword sector. Coms as well as own gtlds and Emoji and idn's and cctlds but I started buying new gtlds in January 2014 and was a fan of gtlds back then and still a big fan of gtlds today going forward

To add further

I would use the

My. Games

Gtld

purely to gain free organic Google ranking by using my. Games Gtld to redirect Google traffic in to my. Com

This seems very interesting - thanks for drawing it to our attention @cipcip !

So as I read it I think the company is keeping my.com for general use but putting their games division on my.games.

The domain name has a creation date of Feb 15, 2019. And it seems that My.com have had it in at least partial use for some months according to Wayback Machine archive.

So the interesting question is, of course, how much it sold for and whether it was a registry sale. It seems that it was for sale on Afternic (make offer).

I hope we learn more about this, but it certainly is a major player moving to the .games platform.

Of course free.games sold for $335,000 (domainer sale) earlier in 2019. I would think that my.games is more valuable than that.

This is a gift to who is running mygames.com, extra traffic for them. In my opinion of course :)

When people hear that your company is My Games, they will go to mygames.com the 95% of the times, or check it for sure at least once. I think they have choosed my.games because they don't expect too much traffic going to that domain, as it looks like a corporate web. If they would plan to run an end user site with lots of traffic, now that would be a BIG gift for mygames.com. Again.. in my opinion :)

The My.games site is already top 500,000 in Alexa ratings - not bad for a recent rebrand.
MyGames.com is much less popular, not quite in top 12 million Alexa ratings.

Thanks for the info Bob. Yes, it looks that they are clearly more popular and doing better with SEO than mygames.com. With "my games" and "mygames" they appear first at google, my.games and my.com. In fact I don't see mygames.com anywhere on the two first pages of google results at least for "my games".

Good point, the registrations will all be poor quality that get dropped quick.

Interesting that is seems renewal on the my.games domain name appears to only be about $38. It is premium but not high renewal premium, at least if usually reliable MrDomain data is valid for it. Free.games is the same renewal. I wish we knew what price was paid for the domain.

Shows how you can tell any story with stats. The average aftermarket sales price of a .games domain name is $47,900! But there have only ever been 11 sales. 5 of which have been under $250. Here is the list.

I can appreciate your opinion, but worry this has been the value prop of the "old guard" when it comes to domains for a decade now.

The truth is that user behavior has changed, and search engines are smarter than ever. 95% of people use google to navigate, and my.games has been ranked dead first since it first launched for the search for "my games". It also began to index in first position faster than any other name I have seen developed. Mygames.com is sitting about 47 results underneath it.

Direct navigation is no longer a fruitful argument with the clear change in user behavior when it comes to search. Just ask yourself how you got to craigslist last? Did you type in the url, or did you google "craigslist" and click the top result?

I worked with my.com to complete this deal, and it has truly become another shinning example of whats possible when forward looking companies embrace the opportunity to leverage some of the best possible names available to them. You don't need to spend big money on a .com, when you can get the same results, and arguably better branding with domains that form natural phrases.

There is only a handful of Go and My domains that are still available, and you should expect to see some more great sales and developed sites in the near future!
