While searching online, I recently found out that the domain name GoDaddy.com is up for sale at Afternic.com.
The seller is asking 8 figures for such domain. The exact price tag is $49,999,999.

The question here is: is this a fake sale or what? Isn't this name owned by GoDaddy? If not, can the most successful domain name register company in the world - GODADDY- afford to buy this PREMIUM domain? Isn't it a trademark? Is there any legal issues to worry about if it's purchased by someone not related to the domain register giant?

Note:
According to Estibot, the terms Go Daddy has 450,000 exact monthly searches!

Interesting find.

@Joe Styler Can you explain ? :)
This only reinforces the idea that Afternic should implement domain ownership verification.
Anyone can list any domain as long as it is not listed yet, like facebook.com.
Please consider implementing domain ownership verification as it was suggested like a million times before.

@Sheogorath thank you for sharing your thoughts! Yes it better be a joke or something like that! Yes, I definitely agree with you that Afternic should implement "ownership verification " before allowing someone to place a domain on sale in their platform.

@Sheogorath thank you for sharing your thoughts! When you have the chance, please search GODADDY.COM on Estibot and you will find the answer. Take a look at this attachment Show attachment 130771

I'm already aware that it is not really for sale.
There are many fake domain listings on Afternic.
I asked @Joe Styler to add domain ownership verification so such weird stuff will not happen.
I had to ask Afternic staff to remove several of my domains from Afternic when I found they were already listed.
Domain ownership verification is a MUST have in this business since it can give buyers more security when searching the marketplace and there won't be fake & weird listings all over the place.

Btw estibot.com appraisal is useless, like all other automated domain appraisal tools.
It is only useful when checking for trademarks.
I strongly suggest to avoid basing domain valuation based on this tool.

I'd know what to choose : Name.com 1 million,150 thousand dollars, and Afternic and also Dynadot 50 million. IT's a premium domain, not a "registry premium domain". It renews at normal pricing for a .com.

So when they sell it what will their new name be?

Bugzilla? Slowdaddy?

Bet people are contacting them offering it for 60m hoping to make 10m on the transaction.

Someone should submit a $200 offer on Afternic just to see what happens.

Yes, I noticed it but bro why the heck it's on sale🤔? It makes me think GoDaddy is about to file for bankruptcy 😂

Because some doofus thinks they can fraudulently list the name for sale and actually get paid without owning it.

There are some not bright people in the world...
