sales Premium Domain Name July.com Changes Hands

Spaceship Spaceship
The premium domain name July.com recently changed hands. While no price has yet been disclosed, I speculate that this is probably a six-figure sale. The domain name is already in use by the Australian travel products firm July, redirecting to their GetJuly.com site. The company had already been using simply July on social media, and their home page branding is now showing just July as well.

Seller

Whois history using DomainIQ research tools indicates the domain name was created on Dec 14, 1995. While more recent records are under privacy, it would appear that the domain name has been held by Future Media Architects at least since 2003.

James Iles included July.com in his NamePros blog post on 10 premium domain names held by Future Media Architects. It has been estimated that Future Media Architects hold perhaps as many as 100,000 domain names, even after a number of sales in recent years.

Whois records for July.com show the most recent change dated Sept 16, 2019.

Likely Price

There is no record in the NameBio database of this sale, or any other previous ones, for the domain name July.com. In fact, there are very few publicly-disclosed sales of month-based domain names. October.com sold for $12,000 back in 2006, but undoubtedly a summer month currently has a much higher worth.

The domain name July.com was listed for sale on the Uniregistry Market, although the for-sale page is now removed.

Uniregistry recently began to disclose a selection of top sales on a weekly basis. If a price is subsequently disclosed for the July.com domain name sale, this article will be updated. Uniregistry also report sales on an annual basis, with $50.1 million in sales during 2018.

I would predict that July.com sold for something in the low to mid six-figure range. Here is a list of the 109 .com domain names of length four letters or more that sold during the past three years in the price range $100,000 to $900,000. It seems to me that July.com is of similar quality to many of these domain names.

According to dofo the exact name July is registered in 106 extensions with 33 of them for sale, including .net, .org, .info, .us and .de. Most of the domain names for sale are listed as make offer, but the .co has a buy-it-now price in the low six-figures, while both the .ai and .io are asking fixed prices in the five-figure range.

Surprisingly the exact name July has only five recorded sales in the NameBio database, with the highest being just $1174 in the .top extension for a sale made in 2018.

July Company

The July company brands around the idea of products and services that allow you to focus on travel while your possessions are securely transported. They describe their goal in the following way.
“We exist to bring better design and thinking around how we travel. To elevate your travel standard … around the experience of considered design and service. July is here to ensure you can focus on the parts of travelling you love.”

The company is quite new, having been launched by founders Athan Didaskalou and Richard Li in the second half of 2018, and only having begun shipping products in 2019. They sell direct to consumers, shipping worldwide from their Australia site. They have physical presences in Australia and Singapore.

Consistent with their strong emphasis on elegant product design, the company has now moved from the domain name GetJuly to a far more elegant domain name, simply July.com.

Modern branding tries to avoid boxing the company into a narrow product line, allowing for future expansion into new product lines. There is no doubt that July fits this model, and the premium domain acquisition is a bold, but smart, move for a recently opened business.

Others Who Could Have Used Name

While we know the purchaser for July.com, several other businesses could have potentially benefited from an upgrade to the domain name. These include Studio July , July Services , Plastic Free July among many others.

With national celebrations that month in a number of countries, and July also being the most common vacation month in the northern hemisphere, the name would have been ideal for a travel services company.
