I previously invited input for a new brand name for a product/service that protects domain owners from unforeseen risks and provides optional insurance against economic loss. The concept was introduced here.

After a few days of reviewing domain submissions, we now have a screened list of prospects for this project and are looking for some input on name selection before making a final decision.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I don’t care for any of those. The closest to the desired feeling is NameSoldier but I would expect the com. I am sure it was hard because “name” names are mostly taken.Thats why I suggested DN. Surprised not to see any “domain”or “brand”words in this list.

NameSeal.com is my top pick.

NameSeal.com is my top pick.

Not bad just confusing to the proposed product. Sounds more like a stamp of approval or a certification than security or protection.

I voted for NameProtector.com what you guys think?

The reason for not using "Brand" as that gets into Trademarks and other civil law risks that are hard to assess and mitigate. So, I chose to stick to the knitting of the more technical product, namely the domain and the risks of using it. We are not going to get into protecting social media handles or reputation repair from bad consumer reviews, etc, simply because it would be hard to underwrite and probably impossible to re-insure. Here were the main risks we had in mind:

Prior Fraudulent Conveyance
Domain Theft post purchase
Negative SEO
UDRP Complaint
Civil Trademark Claims
DDoS attack
Copyright / DMCA complaint
RBL/Spamhaus whitelisting
DNS Hijack protection

It just so happens that Epik does have a lot of the ingredients needed to measure or contact most of the associated risks, e.g.:

- Domain Registrar
- Domain MaxLock
- Domain name owner history data
- Anycast/DNSSEC
- DDoS Mitigation (Bitmitigate.com)
- Email hygiene tools
- Web crawlers
- Trademark data

In theory, a 1% per year insurance premium for the face-value of the insured asset would be a compelling value proposition to someone who does not like surprises. The point of entry product is not insurance, but rather a "CarFax" style risk assessment. This is what @bhartzer brought me and what inspired the idea.

Fantastic selection of potential names!

Name Soldier .com not .co
NameSoldier.jpg

  • The name has a personality .. just like Toki.
  • Easy visualization and brand recall for protection services
  • It can be further used to brand a wide range of security & safeguard services for domain names.
  • Defense level security

Yes, moderator was notified. It is .com not .co -- I think the mods are offline. Sorry about that.

Name Protector .com

(+) Its a good name too with clear focus on Security and domain protection.
(-) Might limit the brand if you want to expand to other services

This is about protecting "domains" but there is only one choice DNProtect.com so I picked it. I'd like to see "Domain" prefixed choices.

I agree. DNProtect.com got my vote.
Besides that NameSeal.com is the most beautiful name for the purpose.
Namesoldier reminds me to war, to aggressive for protecting a digital code with digital means IMO. Would prefer -police, -ninja, -knight if an active defense shall be expressed. Or the NameSafeguard.com which I voted for, too.

Correct me if I am wrong, but from the other thread it seemed that it is not just protection service? It is also pre-purchase assurance/verification/clearance?

Also, noun+verb format would be unusual for branding. The same for Noun+Adjective.

Assurer - French for Ensure? Got my vote.......

"tell someone something positively to dispel any doubts."
"make certain of obtaining or providing (something)."
"make sure that (a problem) does not occur."

Multi purpose meaning that covers the bases

Rob who is going to be your target audience, some terms that are familiar to and preferred by domainers might not be as easily understood by end users as far as the message that you want to convey to them. Do most end users understand what Name or DN refers to in this context.

Meanwhile I like NameSeal , NameSafeguard , and DnProtect

DnProtect.net v/s DnProtect .com

DNProtect.net also seems to be running some kind of domain protection and security service. Epik might have to do a legal check here to avoid trademark issues. It is a good name though.

Name starting domains and dn can be a good option as well.

Nameseal. I went over the list quickly earlier today and that's the only one I remembered without looking at the poll a couple of hours later.

It's memorable. Brandable. Good luck.

That is why I chose NameCleared :)

For the reasons Rob explained here, Brand domains were excluded. We did have some.

I sent InspectMyDomain.com, VerifyMyDomain.com and DNInspector.com. Although I agree that there are clearly names on the poll that are better than those, I think that at least one of the three above should have made the poll. Even if the first one are 3 worders, They clearly describe the scope of the project.

NameSeal.com is my choice from the list. It's memorable and it makes a very strong brand name.

I know it's disappointing ( I submitted eScreener.com myself ) but they probably got too many really nice "more fitting " names than they could possibly but on this already large list . so I'm sure they appreciated everyone's imput but could use every name for the second round .

The only domain on the second round that is even close to what I would choose is dnprotect.com ... nothing else is even close if you think of what the domain should tell about the product , ease of branding ... it is not confusing ... short ..

I thought my selection of NameGoals.com was a solid, confident .com brand, but who knows...

GL!
