Can't believe what I'm seeing here. I'm just trying to purchase a Homepage Showcase listing for my domain currently pushed in auction and I can't even pay with my Card. And even though I don't have sufficient PayPal, there's not even an option for that. What the h*ll? Only Alipay and slow Wire?? And the irony: the previous page before this showed all the payment logos - Visa Mastercard PP etc only to end up with THIS huge disappointment. No way I'll use wire, by the time it reaches Sedo the auction will be over.

It's so ridiculous not to see any of the usual payment systems on such a HUGE, INTERNATIONAL site like this.

Just making a rant. Don't know what to do now. I don't even live in China. Do I have to start living in China and do some weird modern Chinese "ritual" of waving smartphones just to pay Sedo now?? (I only say this because of those videos-in-China I saw on Youtube...)

@Sedo (Search Engine for Domain Offers) is a subsidiary of Germany based United Internet.

See the hyphenated domain united-internet.com for more info. Or see the non-hyphenated version to be redirected to the hyphenated version! 👌

Indeed.
Sedo isn't a Chinese company, not that anything was wrong with it even if it was.

Although the title of the thread, with "Chinese" capitalized and followed with three questions marks, might imply otherwise. But not to fret, I mean what isn't made in China nowadays?(???)

Good point
"Made in China" does appear quite often in the world, but I don't have an issue with it.

Well, if I want to argue for the sake of arguing, how would one know if the Chinese didn't own a 51+% stake in United Internet, and then putting a German-looking front??

On a more serious note, if they're really German-based, then my situation above is even more ridiculous, since it means being an international company that alienates at least 80% of the entire world population.......

What is your issue?
Payment method?

Yes, it depends on your country.
Some countries/territories are limited only to those methods which are displayed in your Sedo account.

+ CC payments are limited on Sedo to $5K.
And, probably, PayPal as well.

It's just $39-69, for a "Homepage Showcase" listing. Are they so scared to take 39-69 from a card??

I already answered above.
Every company has its own antifraud policy/blacklist.

Then it really sucks for me to live in a "terrorist-labelled country" :(

And wire (SWIFT) is not slow...
I receive wires from Sedo to my Ukrainian bank within ~24h during business days.

I think they are based out of Germany.

They are based in Koeln (Cologne).
Almost 20 years already.

That's near. That's almost like EU to EU. Mine is in South-East Asia and I know my banks suck.

I had wires from HK to my bank in Ukraine within 2 business days.

HK is an international hub, if the HK banks don't do a good job they'll be screwed.

And besides even if it's really really 2 days, it's not like banks operate on weekends do they? (I know mine don't)

Really...
Really 2 BUSINESS days from HK local/domestic bank to Ukraine.
Probably, from the international banks in HK (like HSBC) will be even faster.

What country exactly?
This theme is not about "terrorism"... it is mostly about various offshores and countries with high fraud rate...

Sedo have over 300 staff and none work weekends.
Their total staff doesn't matter, even if over 300 is real data.
Just few transfer specialists/agents there.
Regarding weekends - this is their tradition. They don't consider the domain sales as urgent events.

I was surprised too when they ask me to pay for the auction via AliPay or Wire instead of CC

I had the same reaction like you @eternaldomains
