information Top Topics: Panda.com Domain Sale; What Do You Think of a Domain Microfinance Program?...

Spaceship Spaceship
A top-tier animal .COM domain name looks to have been sold recently. The domain name is Panda.com, which has moved from Network Solutions to a privacy protected Fabulous.com account this week. The domain name was advertised on NamePros in July by Grit Brokerage, with user @Keith disclosing that a $500,000 offer had been received. A subsequent message informed the community that the name had gone into escrow, although the actual sales price hasn’t been revealed.

Crunchbase lists a plethora of potential end-users for this name including PandaDoc, a US-based document automation software provider with over $21 million in funding. It’ll be interesting to follow the domain in the future!

Here are this week’s Top Topics.

My Latest Five-Figure Sale

AbdulBasit Makrani is very familiar with high-value sales, having sold domains such as Symphony.com for six-figures in the past. Today, however, AbdulBasit will have to make do with a couple of five-figure sales!

After moving his family from Pakistan to Malaysia, the investor quickly closed two five-figure sales including a “Buy Now” sale at $19,888! In total, the domains yielded close to a $44,000 profit before commissions and fees were taken into consideration. All the details, including the domains sold, are available in the discussion.

A Domain Microfinance Program

Rob Monster, the founder of domain registrar and marketplace Epik has brought a new idea to the community in the form of a domain name microfinance program.

All the major details of the proposed program are in this discussion, but it seems that investors may be able to get grants totaling as little as $30, with the potential for an interest-free loan after that. There is an attached poll with mixed reviews. What do you think of this idea?

NameSilo Asks for Feedback

Domain name registrar NameSilo opened a discussion this week asking investors for feedback on a new service that they are set to release in the future. According to the discussion, NameSilo is building a standalone domain marketplace and brokerage platform, and are looking to the community for inspiration.

NameSilo are aiming to build a product that fits the needs of investors, so domainers are being asked to disclose their current bugbears about domain marketplaces and brokerages currently on offer.

The Best Affordable Format for Geo Domains

Geographic domain names can be powerful tools for local businesses. Memorable and descriptive, businesses can get a profitable boost from effectively utilizing this type of name.

An investor’s friend is opening a locksmith company in a with a population of 250,000. The exact match “CityLocksmith.com” domain name is taken and has an asking price of $5,000, but the new business owner is hoping for a lower-cost alternative. What alternative domain name would you suggest for this business?

Showcase Your VUI Domains

A potential emerging trend has been identified by a domain investor this week, and that is Voice User Interface, abbreviated to VUI. According to Wikipedia, VUI makes human interaction with computers possible using speech. We’re used to services such as Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri, but VUI may be more readily available in a number of future tech devices.

In this discussion, trend domainers are prompted to share any VUI domain names in their portfolio.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Thanks for nice summary @James Iles. Lots of breadth in topics this very active week. Will be interesting to see how Epik's microfinance initiative turns out.

NameSilo, already popular among NamePros members, seem determined to increase their footprint and nice approach to ask for guidance from the community at the outset of their new initiatives.

I can confirm that Panda has sold. As for the price - we’ll say that all offers don’t pan out.

It was 6 figures for sure.
