GoDaddy auction disappears before my eyes...will it return?

So I am watching and bidding on domains and testing a few theories I have about 'odd behavior' on various auction sites and watched a domain with no bids expire...second by second.

Normally, after a very short period of time, the domain will become available at the $11 closeout pricing, but this one did not...so the the question is: 'What could have caused that domain to disappear?'.

***********

EDIT: So, as suggested below, I will check back in a while and see if it reappears. It is not a name I want, I just happened to watch it count down as it had no bids. It seemed odd to me as other names I did want became available right away...hopefully this is just a hiccup in the system and nothing else.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Have seen the same , sometimes it comes back after an hour or so !

I appreciate you responding.

I have not ever seen it take much more that 2-3 minutes before...in the interest of not seeming to 'hate' for no reason, I will change the info above.

Yep...me thinks something shifty happened

Auction ended at 9/19/2019 5:27 PM (EDT) and it is now 7:49 and the name has not re-appeared.

Maybe a bot grabbed it before it could even reappear. They usually grab it in a split second, before you can even blink.

To many bugs at Godaddy lately, they need to get some priorities straight over there, one of them is not letting bots game closeouts. Maybe this is a reward for huge domains pushing bids up hundreds of dollars on average type names, but they don't seem to care. I guess you can wait a week, and see who owns it.

Yep...watched more names go through the auction to closeout process and the name always appears quickly (test it for yourself). It will interesting to see who has this in about a week: InnovaRx.com

As you said, it would most likely be the HugeDomains bot that scraped that domain up from the Closeouts and from what I've seen when I started hopping back into GD's auctions(and currently abandoning for the meantime), I decided I would keep the original auction page up and refresh every couple of minutes to see if it would come back for me to snag it manually.

The ones that were available within about a minute or two from closeout weren't scraped up by them and were pretty much free game for about a day if it was a decent domain. But, if I would see it stuck in the same status for about 30 minutes to about 2 hours, the bot has most likely been picked by HugeDomains and about a week later, it would be sitting on their landing page.

I am highly disappointed that GoDaddy is allowing these domains to be grabbed by bots, but it's currently the nature of the game there. Making me rethink my game plan for whenever I do actually start spending money with them. In the meantime, more than happy to start scooting my domain names away from there.

Sorry I’m late and did not read although way through ( quick minute ) but I’m sure you all have already thought of this based off the members I see here

Was this an expired auction ? If so ...last minute renewal ?

If normal auction (non expired ) ..perhaps BIN made someplace else which canceled it out ?

Expired...auctions have a start bid of $12 but with no bids, once the clock runs out, it goes to a fixed price of $11 and drops from there over the next few days until it bottoms out at $5.

Refresh is automatic if you are logged in and in this case, to do a little testing, I had a second computer running where I was refreshing manually (the screens were side by side). The name never 'dropped' so it was internally acquired or someones 'bot' had priority access. Surely they would never let their own employees have a registration advantage (pretty sure that is illegal in some places...immoral at best) so it must have been a bot.

I have noticed when they want the domain in closeouts you will see the views jump greatly that is when you know you are not getting it, as the second you see it at $11, and hit the buy button, it’s that pause, then cannot be added to cart message, and you been HUGED!

Godaddy knows exactly what is going on, and they are not closing the cherry picking access because it is a big Thank You to Huge Domains for making them millions more as they are skyrocketing up every average domain $100-$400. Since they had to close the backorder loophole where Huge Domains grabbed tens of thousands of domains, and when some namepros guy called it out, Godaddy was caught with their shorts down years after it had been gamed, and did not close the loophole immediately because Huge Domains now had thousands of worthless backorders. So fast forward to today, Huge Domains has a new added advantage brought on by the house, so you can play all you want, but they are going to make you pay everytime as they zero in on any chance to bid you up they can.

Many people have just given up as they are sick of wasting their time getting bid up, and they know they can’t get the better closeouts, so really it’s just newbies, and serious buyers who keep getting hit by bidder 913932, most have caught on now, and are bidding them up, and sticking them with the bids.

I have observed the following on a number of occasions historically, and at least one time recently. Yes the domain is grabbed by bot, but reappears in a watchlist after ~2 or 3 hours, with an opportunity to buy it now for $11 without any issues and without any competition. Common sense prompts, that bots do exactly the same as humans - they need to add the domain a shopping cart, and then they need to pay. If they elected not to pay, or removed the domain from their shopping cart (extra human check might have been performed by bot owner) - then it returns either instantly (after a timeout) or immediately after being manually removed from the shopping cart @ bots account. So it definitely makes sense not to forget immediately about a potential closeout purchase, and to refresh the watchlist periodically. If it returns - it would be there with $11 BIN sign

Yep, reason number 913932 is the reason why I've taken a step back to kind of reevaluate how I want to go forward in purchasing domains. There have been plenty of domain names that when I was buying domain names for backlinks and current SEO value, I'd hate to see that number pop up after the auction ended to see they have driven up my costs.

Funny thing that it made me personally step back to see how I evaluate domain names, how much would I be willing to actually pay, and if I lose the domain, then I lose it. Blessing in disguise for me, but maddening to know that snagging decent deals is practically going to become non-existent with HD being given the keys to the kingdom.

Good point. I was more alluding to HugeDomains pretty much having a strangle on the Closeouts with their bots, but humans and some bots don't finish the process. Must lose their minds that they forgot to finish the cart purchase and know someone else probably snagged the domain they wanted. But, you are right that at least those can come back into the fold if the cart was abandoned.

If they are tying up the closeout to evaluate if, or don’t intend to purchase it then godaddy sees this as an abuse, if a regular account did that they would ban them.

Then again the rules don’t apply to Huge Domains, they pretty much have free reign, and if their bot every went bat shi% crazy, and bid on everyname dropping, they would make that exception and reverse those bids, but if doesn’t work like that for regular Joe’s.
