Hello everyone,

I'm Abdul from Washington, DC. I recently became interested in domain investing and I started a very modest portfolio. I currently own 23 domains. I don't want to buy too many more until I actually know what I'm doing.

Even though I'm new to this, I've had some beginners luck. So far, one domain I put on GoDaddy Premium sold for $1,078 last month. It was an expired domain, I registered it for the standard $10 registration fee, and someone decided to buy it a few weeks later with no effort on my part. I was obviously very excited about that amazing return on investment. The problem is I have no idea how it sold. I guess I just got lucky. I know I can't expect that to happen regularly without some sort of plan. Proof of that is the fact that my other domains haven't sold yet.

I'd like to learn the best methods for how to make sales more consistently, including the best marketplaces to sell my domains, the best types of domains to focus on, how to get the word out about my domains, the type of people likely to buy them, negotiation techniques, etc.

I know very little at this point, so I plan to be on the forum quite a bit. Any advice is always welcome and appreciated; I need a lot of it! Critiques are welcome as well. Then over time, I hope to share any insights I've gained as I learn more.

Thanks for reading this. I'm looking forward to learning more and becoming a more active domain professional.

Hello!

You are off to a good start re domain names with a nice ROI sale!

Suggest you read through the Forum's sales threads and see what formats and platforms domain names are sold through. What sales format or platform " works " for one person may not be just right for the next person.

Welcome to NamePros!

@Chay Toks As I mentioned, I think I just got lucky. The domain was learnmusicproduction .com. None of my other domains sold that way. But they've only been on sale for a couple of months now, so maybe I'll be fortunate and others will be bought also.

We'll see how things go moving forward. I'm definitely looking to learn how to do things more actively though, instead of passively waiting for my domains to sell.

Your organizing/simplifying your top areas to study/learn in are mine too. I made an outline from your words:

6 Areas To Learn Best Methods In:
*How to make sales more consistently
*Best marketplaces to sell my domains
*Best types of domains to focus on
*How to get the word out about my domains
*Type of people likely to buy them
*Negotiation techniques etc.

Your organizing/simplifying helps me (and maybe others).

One of the things I'm learning already is that it's going to be my making it happen for it to happen!

Much appreciated, will do!
To know what will work for me is the task. I think that the more I show up and participate in this forum the more I'm breathing the air of success and, sooner or later, I'll be thriving as a domainer. That's my sense now.

Salam Abdul. Congrats on the sale. Never rush buying names when starting out. It might be helpful to shortlist names before making the purchase, as that extra time might just make you reconsider. Follow Namebio to see what sells, domain buyer requests. With every name consider what and if businesses would actually want to use it that name. With time, experience, you'll have a better idea on what to jump on immediately and what to shortlist. There are lots of resources here on Namepros to help you, READ. Good luck and welcome to Namepros.

Learning from the forum is definitely useful and important, but making sure we take action outside of the forum is even more important.

Welcome Abdul and congrats on your first sale. The Beginners section here at NamePros would be the right place to begin with. List your domains at least at Afternic and Sedo and have a landing page to gain the maximum exposure.

Your Purchase or Snap of the day Thread is quite an insightful thread that can help you analyse what people around are buying and why
Report Completed Sales Thread would help you understand what sold and how or why.

Wish you the best in your journey.

Thanks @Nikhil Jain. Should I list my domains for the same price on the different platforms, like Afternic and Sedo? And for the landing page, do you mean one landing page for all of my domains, or a landing page for each domain?

Regarding putting up price on different platforms, everyone has a different strategy for using BIN plus Make Offer.
Check out DAN.com to understand what I mean by landing pages. Yes, landing page for each domain.

Start reading up here at NamePros. Most of the queries will be resolved soon.
