Doug Messer , doug @ universitybeyond.com.

Quite simple, he made an offer on a name, I accepted, he did not pay. Apparently declined to receive phone call(s) from Dan.com.

Breach of contract, Dan.com rightly gave me his details. I emailed him twice advising him that I would post his details on various domain forums and social media, Linkedin.com etc.,and asking if he had a good reason to renege on the deal to sway me from posting.
As with Dan.com he declined to respond.

Incidentally 3 non payers in a row at Undeveloped/Dan but they tell me that is OK and not unusual.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Personally I'd just move on.
So middle ground see with mods @Eric Lyon if we can have some sort of insider place where we can share those without them being indexed by search engines to protect the person's identity?
Or you guys are mainly looking to sh*t on people?
Sorry, but I have no intention of protecting the identity of these persons that do not complete the contract by not paying, far too many of them.
If more were exposed then perhaps it would make them think twice.

Not exactly ivy league material here...from his linkedin page, might want to spellcheck when he tries to sell himself. Looks like he runs a branding agency, and probably plays a lot of names off each other, and tries to get pricing before a name is decided, causing all these deadbeat bids. Which is not right by any means.

Since starting my first business in Highschool, I have successfully excited a web-based media company and vape accessory brand JucceBox.

Ah I just noticed.. I was liquidating 1400 domains here at namepros and recieved mail and WhatsApp from him that he wanted to purchase 100+ domains from the list. Deal was finalised and he was supposed to send the payment last week. When I told him that I have other buyers for the domains so he said that he gonna transfer the payment immediately and I should not sell the domain to anyone else..

It's been a weak and neither he sent any payment nor responded back...

He is part of the forum and i guess he is bidding on everyone's domains or making offers though he has no intention to purchase any of them.

Sounds like the waste of space I thought he was. Perhaps someone will post his
username.

Does Dan take any steps to verify the identity of the buyer before releasing it to the the seller, at least confirming the buyer's email address?

I haven't been on the buying side there, so I don't know if you need to click a link from your inbox to verify your email before making an offer.

Who is liable for damages to someone's reputation if it's a case of mistaken identity? That can be quite costly to try to repair. I'm not saying that's the case here, I have no idea, I'm just asking.

If making empty offers is a domaining strategy that people are using, and it's easy to use anyone else's identity to do so, we should really think about how we approach this. I'm hoping the answer to my first question is "Yes, of course they verify the identity before releasing it, it would be way too easy to abuse this otherwise."

Good afternoon all,

For those of you who do not know me yet, my name is Laszlo and I am the account director at DAN.COM.

I have noticed many of you have expressed your concern regarding our low barrier entry setup. As a company, we have stressed this many times before but we understand the frustration that comes with the none-payers as we get frustrated with them as well. However, the ultimate goal is more sales which are realized through the low barrier setup we currently maintain as confirmed by the sales data we have collected throughout the years.

When it comes to non-payers, we have a team of representatives that chase your buyers multiple times both by phone and email. DAN offers this, while also offering the lowest commission in the market. This process ensures that all real buyers end up converting into sales.

Cancelations are simply part of this business, it is annoying but don’t forget what your main goal is as a seller: to generate the maximum potential revenue from your portfolio and DAN.COM is fully optimized for that.

Hi thanks for the info again about the low-friction approach to generating offers.

But are non-buyers converting to banned bidders?

I believe on Dan.com you can keep a domain available while a potential sale processes - not everyone offers that.

There is a whole thread on here about the ethics of publishing the non-payer's data:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/doxxing-yes-or-no.1152159/page-3#post-7378137

What I said there:
Also, on some marketplaces an accepted offer means your listing is no longer visible, and it is prudent to remove or hide listings on other marketplaces until the domain definitely does or does not get paid for.

Effectively this means with no risk someone can effectively take an option on your name at that price (see other threads on offering domains for sale without consent of the owner) or simply have your listing removed to gain some competitive advantage, for example them selling a similar domain. So really I think platforms need to do more to verify ability to pay, get deposits in many cases to accept offers, and to have financial penalties and bans for repeat offenders.

What if the buyer bids on your domain, finds another domain on DAN, buys it, backs out of your deal.

I have been selling names on Sedo for around 17 years, maybe had 5-6 non payers over that period of time with probably 200 sales over that time. A few months on Dan.com (Undeveloped) and three failed "sales" in a row for a total of zero sales.

The speed at which you determined the sale in question was not going ahead made it fairly obvious that Messer was not going to pay, guess he had done it before? Is he banned now?

As a kid having a yard sale, my dad always told me “if someone makes an offer, and needs to go get cash, make sure they leave something of value, but no kids or pets”. A small deposit required would separate the buyer and non buyer, and leave some form of payment if the buyer backs out. If this works at yard sales and real estate, why does @Sedo and @Dan not require. Possibly their data shows a different story. But a buy it now @Sedo should be a buy it now,not a buy it maybe. On offers in all businesses deals don’t go through, which is normal...

six of one, half a dozen of the other. I'd had sellers not agree to deals and buyers, but this is business.

Complaining on a forum is not going to turn the deal around in my favor - Lick your wounds and move on.

Business is not a cry baby sport, Encouraging whining or complaining again won't change anything. Life should of taught you that by the time you leave secondary school

I am not complaining I am warning others of people who will waste their time and money. Been in business for some 55 years.
Domaining for 17 years and will continue to out people like this and many others who are out to con or whatever the unwary.
Sold over 1000 domains in that time but still have time to be concerned about my fellow damainers.
If others have their own ideals then live with them.

I agree, without question, business is not a cry baby sport. And I sort of agree that complaining isnt going to turn that deal around. But complaining could turn the next deal around... After all, this is a forum and this is where discussion occurs - complaints, kudos, warnings... its all discussion and it as a place here.

As a community of professionals we have an obligation to notify each other when bad actors enter our industry. Every industry does this to protect itself and to further its profits.
