According to a Medium post from ENS:

"This means you will soon be able to use one ENS name to receive any arbitrary cryptocurrency — such as bitcoin, litecoin, and zcash — rather than only ether and Ethereum-based tokens."

Going on to point out:

"But later this year we plan on rolling this out for most TLDs, including all widely used ones like .COM, .ORG, .IO, and +1200 others."

And:

"In other words, soon the Ethereum Foundation will be able to receive not only ether but also bitcoin and any other cryptocurrency with the name “ethereum.org” — with ENS’s Ethereum smart-contracts making it all happen in the background."

This is great news and an added benefit to domains!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
"The Internet" <--2020--> "The Mainnet"

..had a hunch "Digital Assets" could yield mainstream (access) w' Domain Names as the true "Top-Level" :) :) :)

Looks like the hunch paid off!

I didn't see the integration of blockchain names with DNS coming, but glad it is!

Huge opportunity here!

Yes! Everyone will need a domain for crypto. This multiplies the user base as crypto becomes more adopted. Both domains and crypto will grow synonymously.

I’ll have to check but if I remember rightly, to hold a .ETH domain you will need to hold the equivalent .com.

I secured a few .ETH domains a while ago but I know there are changes on the way in relation to who can hold sub 6 letter dns.

Also which gtlds get preference and In what order to secure the equivalent .ETH?

When they released .eth you did not need anything accept the high bid in ethereum. The kicker was that you got your eth back if you didn’t renew.

Yup, they were technically free apart from a small gas fee for the transaction.

I could do with getting up to speed with recent developments.

Seems odd they would announce this as the .eth auction is going. I was about to mortgage the house for crypto.eth. I am bowing out now.

Ah, so it looks like the reservation period has passed.

The reservation process for 3–6 character .ETH names closed on August 17th and decisions have been sent out. Of 344 applications, 194 were approved and now belong to their new owners.

The next step of the is an auction for all short names remaining after the reservation period.

Some amazing names available although I expect there to be some heavy bidding! 😲

I’m shocked that only 344 applications for 3-6 letter domains were made and 194 approved.

1998 NGO Grad School = “WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS?”

Hard to wrap my mind around it, seems vast and endless via internet protocals now combined with mainnet protocols like Ethereum:

- crypto composables (collections’ trading)
- child tokens (these are like sub domains)
- fractional token (multi-owners)
- bonded token (fungible coins bonded to NFTs [tokens])

.. as I like to think about this is all as http://marble.cards whereby such can run on any/each domain!
