What's the worst purchase you've ever made? We've all been there, you spot an interesting domain in the final minutes of its auction, and before you know it you're in a bidding war and you care more about winning than the actual domain.

I'm usually quite careful and simply don't bid on something until I've thought about it for a couple of days and done my research.

However, I once bought toppu.com for about 300 bucks in an expiring auction. Certainly not a bad brandable, but not worth 300 dollars to a reseller. I didn't even particularly want it, I just didn't want to lose - a very dangerous mindset in an auction.

I did sell it in the end, but only for about a third of what I paid for it. I could have held it and maybe got more, but the very fact I owned it annoyed me! Indeed, it wasn't the money that made it painful it was knowing I'd acted so irrationally. Even if I'd sold it for profit I'd still have hated that domain.

HeHe.... I was just about to give you hell and say 5k for sean.com is a bargain until I got to the IDN part :xf.eek:

Lol was it an idn? Man I swear that one was either one of those "smartbuys" or well you know.

It was advertised on here. Congrats on the seller though. Good hustle!

Renew sell for $600 to any future cafe or auction.

Market it as the perfect name for a cafe. Probably worth $2500 retail.

I was going to say similar except I think your valuation is low.

Regrettable purchases
Pretty much anything I've purchased with a bottle of Whisky to hand, All are an absolute embarrassment to own. Thankfully I don't do it very often and rarely drink. Which is probably why I lose my sense of reasoning

I love that Huge Domains is asking $1895 for “Find A Bus Siness”. GoDaddy appraises it at $1150. Must be a good domain after all. :xf.wink:

I make loads of errors but the good ones make up for all the mess ups.

I bought FindABussiness.com in May 2018, and dropped it 2 weeks later once I noticed the misspelling. I run them all through the tool now to avoid misspells.

Since then, it looks like it tricked another marketplace...

Funny thing is, I almost made this exact same mistake today on a similar domain. Lucky I noticed before I purchased!

If it was listed as shown then Huge Domain even made an effort to show it as a misspell.

With them, or is automatic and sometimes the script gets it ridiculously wrong

I won a domain at auction for $200 [word]skys.com and then I realized that's not how your pluralize sky (it's skies) 🤦‍♀️
but still it is brandable right?

I know a few members regretting their .whatever purchases

As much as one would like to say we told you so, my heart goes out to these individuals and I hope they get a couple of decent paydays to help with their losses.
Here's to Mexico continuing to up their AI game since I over-paid for mxai//com at a Go Daddy auction...

In the early days (1996/1997) I once registered a domain name with three consecutive hyphens. :wideyed:

Sometimes technology screws you up. I hate this dang auto correct feature on my mac. Maybe great when typing letters, but sure does suck entering in domains. I have had it more than once change what I entered. A couple of time I didn't catch it and reg some complete trash. :(

luckily i realized right away and got a refund from godaddy

edit: oh also during this panic purchase i ended up spending $40 on it instead of 10 because it auto selected the more expensive package.. it was an all around mess of a day

Jeeprepairs.com
Didn’t figure that Jeep was a trademarked name.
Thought it could work for a Jeep repair shop
