How is outbound marketing for domains done ? Does that guarantee successful sale ? Should I hire someone from fiverr for selling my domain names ?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I don't bother with marketing. Just email the end-users, if the name is decent and they want the name, they will buy it.

If you really want a broker, you are better off finding one on here, people that specialise in domains. Not any sales person can sell domains, there is an art to it.

There is a "broker wanted" section for that.

Domain sale negotiations are very important since that part is what's going to get you the money. Unless the domain is meaningful to the leads you discover, it's wouldn't get anywhere. Use Google to find highly targeted leads and don't outsource such a crucial activity to $5 Fiverr guys.

I was planning to hire a fiverr guy for sales since there is no availability of non-premium domain brokers at the moment.

If your names are of a certain quality, simply create a lander at a marketplace (I use Epik primarily) with a 'buy now' price but leave the option for the person to make an offer. You can set a minimum for that offer to weed out those that want to offer $1.

The trouble with hiring someone that is not industry savvy is they could do damage to the value of your domain assets if they don't handle things properly and professionally.

Very useful. Thank you.

Your primary objection is to get an offer for your domain. You never really want to even give out a price range you want to find the decision maker ONLY at first. You can buy domains send emails ruin everything or you can be careful retain margin encourage customers to delight you with their own offer. How you control your customer will equate more margin. Keep your aces eg valuations or keyword previous sales etc for the counters.

Ever google your site or the keywords those top ranks (ads) are already paying more than your asking. Some cpc is silly money and google rakes it in.

re: "Use Google to find highly targeted leads". Newbie here, would like to know an example of targeted leads for a domain name you use for the example. And any other tips. Thank you in advance.

Help me understand: (1) What do you mean by "ever good you site"? Do you mean "Never" not "ever"? (2) What would your suggestion be for doing top notch prep for outbound?

@lightbear ok eg: I google lightbear I find there is a Lightbearer event. I find more about it email participants. Introduce them to name lightbear the name. I advise them each year it is growing and they can instead of buying into it later competing with the others already participating to take up on the name now with an offer.
Not a paying ad but you get my drift but you need to have some tact and know how to respond to offers and negotiate too much to it. Obtain offer is objective or give your bin.

If you can't do this yourself, you'd be much better off hiring and training a 9-5 local guy for this. I don't think any fiver guy would be willing to do such brainy work for $5.

If you domain is "ArizonaCars.com", try to find businesses with similar names or even general car businesses in Arizona and try to contact their decision-makers (CEO/CFO etc.). Keeping the domains reasonably priced ($250-$750), for any half-decent names, results in a sale more often than not. There are many threads here such as REPORT COMPLETED DOMAIN SALES you can keep reading to know more.

How do you make use of Epik landing page? Do you just change the nameserver of your domain registrar to that of Epik?

In my experience, you may have the perfect name for them and price may be low, but it doesn't matter, they won't respond, if they respond (1 in 100 chance) they won't buy or send another email. But they may buy it after 3 months (but still unlikely). Probably when they first read the email, they won't be in the right mood. Someone here mentioned creating auctions before sending outbound emails. But auctions usually end quickly, and probably without any bids.

If you push someone into doing something, they will push back. So a different strategy needs to be followed, than saying I'm selling this domain, are you buying.. How about saying: Sedo, the leading domain market, is selling this domain, and our algorithm determined that you might be among people who are best canditates to become its new owner (pretend that you are a robot without any intentions).

I definitely love this approach and I'll definitely give it a try. It's subtle and doesn't make one look clingy and needy.

Outbound marketing can garner some interest but how often do we buy things from unknown parties as a result of an email? Yes, I am on email lists of companies which sell sports apparel,, running shoes, board shorts, electronics, etc because I have previously interacted with those companies. Most emails from unknown parties end up in my spam folder but if on occasion they end up in my inbox they likely get deleted. I am not looking to refinance a home or buy a new car etc. Outbound marketing to unknown parties tends to be a very ineffective use of time. Now if someone has previously contacted you about a domain but they were not looking to pay your desired price, they may still be interested at some lower price point.

So what do you actually suggest we do rather than sending outbound emails?

Yes. Of course you have to have a free account and use the add function to put the domains in your portfolio.

ns3.epik.com and ns4.epik.com

I have had plenty success sending outbound emails. My open rates were quite good and sold a lot of Geo+kw domains so it can absolutely be done. Use some tools to help you, I use Hunter.io and Email Finder Extension. I have sold the domains usually in the $300 but all the way up to $1500 range. You do need some type of website and all your contact info in the email including a phone number and you have to answer the phone! I never had anyone accuse me of spamming them, so out bound does work, but does take work. My sell through rate was 3-4 sales out of every 10 domains bought so that (1-100) chance certainly didn't apply to me.

What do they ask on the phone? Is it for establishing trust, or just for convincing?

I would rather try to convince them by email that trust is irrelevant, than trying to establish it. They need
to trust the marketplace we use, not us.

They just wanna know how the process works and speaking to a live person. I give the buyer different options to buy the domain so that helps to and also if needed provide proof of ownership. Once I tell them the process then most deals are closed that day.

I suspect sometimes people prefer to pay higher prices. How: The CEO calls somone from the company, and says, take this 10K, get this domain, and you get 10 percent of the cost as a bonus... If this is the case, this explains why people don't pay the BIN but instead buy through another marketplace to pay more. And you will drop and drop prices and not understand why you can't sell your domain.

1000+ hours of doing outbound yourself will have a chance at success, learning by mistakes,

paying someone to do it, will be a rocky road. imho.

It does require time and work although it can be outsourced as far as having someone find and email all the prospects. I would email anywhere from 30-70 endusers per domain.
