question Will developing a domain hurt value if you go to sell down the road?

Sorry for the Noob question...Hopefully I worded my question properly

Say you own a domain and attempt to develop it. Will it hurt a potential sale down the road if a new company is looking to buy? Is it better to leave a domain untouched for future sale?

For instance....Say I own DogTreats.com (which I don't). I create a website, get a tiny bit of traffic. A year or two later I decide to sell the domain. Will a previous website with content turn off a potential buyer in a sale? Perhaps that buyer is a new business.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
No one has responded to you, but I am a noob, and I have the exact same idea. I was thinking of building out a few domains, and then either selling them as websites on Flippa or keeping the BIN open on SEDO.

Not sure if that's viable, and I'm sure it is something that veterans would know the answer to. Anyone?

I would say the opposite. If you develop a name it will likely attract a higher offer if somebody really wants it as they would need to provide a greater incentive for you to stop using the domain name.

It will never hurt a domain sale unless its been used for spam/malware type rubbish.

In general, a website should add value.

Depends it can if you had site eg: stardancers dot something and it was adult new buyer didn't like it was once used that way. Generally no development equals no clicks if you owned a generic word dot com and page was blank you would not be ranked you might get few type ins just trying to see if works but without development you actually miss out on your generic traffic.

That all makes sense. Thanks for your thoughts.

If you had a bunch of names doing nothing you may be able to monetize them many ways without too much commitment this is when you start niche buying. You either know your buyers or know how they will develop or where they will send the traffic. All depends how exactly your name describes content. Most domains published here will not attract their target audience so be sure to think more about whether what you have is a first choice. Most domains require as much exposure as you can give them so development can be marketed as a starter or turnkey.

I like that idea, lock. Thanks for the good advice.

Do you think Domain Market Pro would be useful to develop a main sales/branding page, and then have smaller sub pages for each domain where you build the niches out a bit? Or would specific Wordpress sites be better for seo, advertising, etc?

Wordpress is more work but you can achieve a lot more. Anything whitelabel that shares same programming will require other sites to market it. If all the programming is the same then it will need full customising every option you can find. Your own site gives you freedom to be unique.
