question How are you generate revenue for your domain portfolio?

With at least $8 per domain name per year, it could add up if you have a large portfolio.

Are you generating enough domain sales to cover annual registration fees?

Are you using parking? I'm not getting much revenue for a long time
Are you developing content sites with Adsense? again, not much revenue for a long time
Affiliate links?
What is your experience?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
This is the question you ask when you need to press forward. First off want a reality check then see if you can earn money from your domains if you can't then just maybe they aren't as great as once thought. If your domain exactly describes something you can find sponsors for then build blogs. Domains without hosting aren't even measurable. Parking is only good if the sponsors match keyword search.

Maybe I should put this in more context.

I'm not a N00b. I've generally made profits from selling domains every year. But for me, the days of parking revenue + Adsense that covered my entire registration cost were long gone.

I've since developed websites and had plenty of ideas. But developing websites takes time and resources. My main revenue from domaining is still from selling domain names. But I'm not going sell for $xxx if I think the domain is worth $xxxx or more.

What is your experience? Perhaps most of the people here are just happy to sell a domain at any price just to make money?

I too absolutely agree with you on this.

I am too looking forward for ways to generate revenue other than developing websites.

Developing websites is time consuming but its also worth every ounce of it when it gives $xxxxx monthly or even daily if put all effort into it or even outsource stuffs and get there to generate profits over a period of time.

Here is my highest click from yesterday via Domain Parking 50 USD+ per click...Parking is great, because you earn passive revenue with no work at all.

That is a great ROI with Uniregistry, how long did it take for parking there to yield such great results?

Also, how many Domains do you have parked there if you don't mind....?

It depends, some domains do well at Bodis, some at Parkingcrew and some at Uniregistry. You should try them all, you can also use above.com for auto optimization.

Around 200 names at Uniregistry for parking 100 at Parkingcrew and 50 at Bodis. Those are domains which earn 8+ per year each. Than I have also names without traffic, those are fwd. to sale landers.

May I know how many hits the domain gets PM? Have some names with 1000 hits Pm. Can they get good revenue? Have never tried parking.

Good to know parking are doing well. I've gave up parking a while back, maybe it's time to revisit them.

But I think parking works for some domain names, especially keywords, dictionary names. Brandables and short domain names like 4L or 3L without traffic probably don't work.

Are you generating enough domain sales to cover annual registration fees?

over the years, i have reduced my portfolio from 3500 domains, to less than 300 now.
with average cost @$10 per name (including.org/net) is about $3k per year in renewal fees.
already had one sale this year that covered that cost

Are you using parking?

yes, still parking all names that don't have their own pages
for sure, parking not good like it used to be,
but....coincidentally last 7 days @ sedo, one of my names earned $22.50 in ppc

Are you developing content sites with Adsense? Affiliate links?

I have a portfolio site that uses adsense and it has some affiliate links too.
needs updating, but has earned enough to pay renewals for the name and hosting

the goal for me, is to have a low maintenance, high quality, self-sustaining, passive income gaining, list of domain names that will take care of me in the future.

:)

imo...

Thanks for sharing @biggie

Besides buying and selling domain names, we all try to find a way to make passive income.

Perhaps we need new idea? Perhaps there is a market for Vanity Email Addresses? instead of generic gmail.com mailbox, people might pay for mike@3dxpert(.)com?

That's a big question. How to generate revenue.

I've been involved with building a number of sites, is it just me or has the advertising payout for blogs gone off a cliff in last 5 years?

I can feel a sense of panic amongst content creators in general: not only the large publishers, but small bloggers, film makers, music makers, it is very hard to make a living creating content. There are so many domain names and websites, but advertisers seems to be spreading too wide.

Some of the prominent publishers are trying to increase ad revenue by stuffing so many display ads onto a single article page.

Hi
without knowing what the actual domain is, then moving it, still may not produce any earnings.

Here is traffic by region. All organic traffic.

you would have to look at the :referrers: of that traffic, to know whether it's type-in traffic, from search engines or backlinks.

imo...

I agree with biggie, also if domain is computer term or analysis related there will be no clicks, cause normally the comp tech staff dont click the links. For instance I have domain getting 20 uniques per day and in the last 60 days didnt receive a single click. You could move it to another parking company, but it could be yet again you will get no revenue.
