I'm trying to figure out if I am one of the last hold outs.

I have never had a Facebook account and quite honestly will never consider getting one. My entire household is facebook free.

I find a lot of the commenting websites will use facebook to login and I cannot participate because I do not use facebook. I just shrug and move on to another website.

So I am wondering.... Am I the oddball out?
Anyone else here who has never had a facebook account?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
That’s assuming you “friend” family.

Let me tell you why I decided not to use facebook and then you will see my point of view.

Years back, and I mean years

I needed to get a facebook profile so I could see a facebook page. This was before they even made you confirm your real information so that gives you an idea how far back it went.

Anyways, I made a profile under a throw away name just so I could see the facebook page I needed to see. I closed the browser after I was done and continued with my day. Eventually I had to go to that page again and I was prompted with all the usual you may know this person, or this person.

What shocked me though was the fact that one of the people they said I may know was my brother who lived across the other side of the country. It stumped me how they did that because I even registered with a throw away email address.

From that moment on I never visited anything facebook again.

How the hell did they know?

So with you assuming YOU did not friend your family, remember that they only have to send a request to you and you are tracked. I am sure there are hundreds of other algorithms that do similar.

Now in the end even that would not be that bad until you realize they keep losing your information with data leaks. O_o

I’m not arguing with you. I simply pointed out that a random person can be blocked from accessing your friend info.

I really do dislike (hate) facebook. I only use it for business pages holding my nose. I try to get in and out as soon as I can. Taking privacy issues aside, it is one of the biggest time wasters. The interface is terrible and hasn't really improved in years. The only reason it is successful is because it preys on people's exaggerated self-importance, egotistical impulses and, at the same time, preys on those who lack self confidence and need confirmation. Studies have been done that show there is a mood altering chemical effect in people's brains the more often they use Facebook, create posts, check likes, check friend's posts, etc.

For those who think that using Facebook is innocent, know that they (FB) track at least 29,000 datapoints on each user. How many of us can name them?

And understand that Facebook tracks your online habits even after you logout of Facebook.

That, among other things, is creepy.

I should also mention that just as bots dominate the traffic numbers on search engines like Google, bots also dominate accounts, posts, and traffic on Facebook. So there's danger there too.
