@richasis Congrats!

I have a question : You got paid via Payoneer for this transaction?

So Payoneer can process a transaction of $50K+ and did they asked you any additional information like verification, etc to proces this transaction?

Payoner policy is 25K within a 24-hour period via ACH... so, I will receive the funds over three days.

Let me start by saying congratulations to the OP.

I cannot help wondering if the commission was a gift to Brand Bucket though.

Let me explain....

A four letter domain is probably an acronym for something specific. For someone to cough up 90k chances are they wanted the domain pretty badly. I wonder what would have happened if the domain was pointed at a lander instead of Brand Bucket.

The way I see it the domain would probably have sold and @richasis would have saved himself a hell of a commission.

Congratulations again, the only way this could have been better news is if you somehow managed to chop down the commission a bit. Every bone in my body says Brand Bucket walked away with too much on this one.

This is a great point and one which good domain name holders should consider carefully when listing such name. By that i mean good 3 and 4 letter names (CVCV patters etc) are going to get direct hits (type in traffic). $18,000 in commission is a lot which again, could have been minimised or avoided altogether.
I would say that BrandBucket and similar services have their place but in made up/brandable space. Not a lot of buyers wake up and go to BrandBucket with a $90k budget. Having said that, not taking anything away from this sale or the result....very good sale.

Congrats on the sale.
We sold an 8L domain BB in June for $75k
There are premiums and higher-end domain sales happening on BB.

I think anyone of us in most business settings would have emailed brand bucket, and maybe offered $50K, if we were serious about this kind of offer. This kind of name would probably command $300-$600 at namepros to be honest. It is very unique, and I know people who own hundreds, and thousands of 4L.com's, and this does not happen very often, it is a very special sale.

As an avid reader and occasional poster to the forum, I have always respected the wisdom of MapleDots.

And, this post is no exception...

While I agree that some serious money was left on the table, this sale may not have happened otherwise.

In my view, this domain name demanded the exposure that the likes of BrandBucket provides us novices.

I was offered $795 for this domain name about ten years ago... back then, I would have accepted $3000.

When BrandBucket came in with an appraisal of 90K, I figured I would roll the dice and "settle" for 72K.

I do believe that this domain could have sold for six-figures and, if undeveloped, it may very well do so.

In the end, MapleDots is correct... that said, I am satisfied by the service provided me by BrandBucket.

I'm now following MapleDots (and, it's about time)... enough said. (y)

^THIS. I had numerous offers for this domain name but never sold myself short...there's a message in that.

Your commission comment I think kind of goes across the whole industry with most people paying 20-30% commissions for exchange sales is really excessive when compared to other industries like real estate, equipment etc... which are sub 10%, and require a lot more face time, marketing, and storage. I think 10% should be an industry norm, given how automated everything has become. I think Dan.com has detected a niche here, and that is why they are closing a lot more sales, even taking away business from paypal to paypal type sales, as they offer an extra layer of security to some users.

I always had a 'feel' for this domain name...I knew it was a winner from the time I picked it up on drop.

I could not have owned a better four-letter domain name, if I had personally hand-registered it myself.

This name could have easily been sold for $2000-$5000 if it was in anyone else's hands. Your instincts proved you right, and most likely changed your life with a one time cash infusion like this, spend it wisely.

I think the lesson to be learned is to hold a domain name that one believes in...and I believed in this one. (y)

What if they had offered you $50K, take it or leave it? I honestly can't say I would have said NO, to that, and maybe 99.5% of other members here probably would have jumped also.

This is an example where having a high fixed price, actually worked out, had it been make an offer, most likely you would have countered, an opening offer.

Honestly, I would have jumped on that offer... like I said, I might have accepted $3000 just ten years ago.
