Gday NamePros

Dave here from Sydney Australia.

And look forward to meeting, speaking and learning from you all.

So -----

I've been domaining for around 10 years now.

In the early days I was purchasing few domains for building actual websites. Mainly ecommerce sites built on Magento (back then).

The early days also consisted of late (drunken) nights purchasing ridiculously funny and cheap domains too.

And it's been entertaining watching these ridiculous ones expire over time - although i've only just started seriously 👊 getting into this

I'd say my level of domain expertise has only just reached an intermediate status (but it's taken way too long) 😜

I've learned my lesson purchasing cheap-ass (worthless) domain names.
And paid for it over time too.

Being an Australian - I also snatched up way too many .com.au's.
And learnt that .com.au values vs .coms are no comparison + many auction sites don't even list .com.aus.

But having said that......

My first decent sal of a domain was a COM.AU and it really gave me the itchy trigger finger scratch for buying more and more domains........

The first .com.au sale was direct.

And the only way I (think) it was found by actually building a dummy branded website on the domain. (it was a good name too).

-------
I've built quite a few sites with decent branding and business ideas on (50+ sites) - and indexed them in google.

(i got so many weird inquiries of people trying to buy products - and not the bloody domain - it's pretty funny) ...

Payment and negotiation were all direct too - and the trust was amazing.

So now I need to watch my addiction.....
And need to learn how to clear the crap - fast and cheap.
To start some serious purchasing.

I'm pretty experienced in SEO and looking for some advice when it comes to domain investing. (other than focus on your day job mate!!!)

Questions like:
1. Is it worth indexing domains in google/bing for sales purposes?
2. Do you recommend setting up your own "brand" to sell domains?
3. Should I work with the EFTY's or DAN's or build my own landings with SEO optimisation etc - and what have people found to work best.

Definitely looking at strategies for purchasing and selling. Egs.:

- Is the KW search volume still valuable with new google algorithms.
- Do any of the other random extensions actually rank on google yet?
- Is Alexa ranking pointless these days?
- What are the key metrics for spending.....

HOW can I clear out a few hundred "decent" domains (appraised all over 1500k bla bla) - and the fasted way possible.

What i'm usually up to (apart from being distracted by this all):
Background in marketing and ecommerce + branding.
- I'm currently running and building of e-commerce sites.
- Consulting for startups on organic search, lead generation and conversion and sales automation. And now domain investing (pretty much - too much)..... I can't stop...

Want to know some of my goals:
  • Clear out the crappy domains as fast as possible.
  • Work out how to flip brandable - built up websites with domains
  • Correctly make use of my time (domaining).
  • Decide whether to sell more crypto for domains or not;)

My First Domain Purchased.
Probably one of these:

russelcrowe.com
chicswithd***sandt*t*ts.com
theworldismine.com

Funniest domain stories continue.
I get the weirdest enquiries from dummy websites I've built.
Just yesterday I received a message to one site quickfreetraffic
This guys was going off how the site has hopeless SEO;) And I should reconsider my day job.

Little did he know;)

Enough about me....
Sorry if it's too much.
But i usually go overboard.

Hope you guys help me save - earn and learn fast.....

My wife thinks i'm now working towards investing in our first real domain.

If only she knew it was a .com ;)

Hello @dAvo welcome to namepros! Remember only top 1% of domain names are highly valuable. Rest 99% falls under liabilities except few lucky ones.

Lets have fun.

Hi @dAvo .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

I think we're all addicted to domains .. lol .. the key is to buy the right ones so that you make more money selling than you spend money buying! (Thankfully I've been at that point for a while now .. lol)

With your background you should do ok sooner than later (probably after a couple of "ah-ha" moments when you realise what you weren't doing as well as you could be doing).

I would definitely suggest moving away from .au domains .. not only is .com the best option .. but there seems to have been a recent push in Australia to make a few changes to .au policies that makes them less domainer friendly.

In terms of metrics .. I do buy occasional domains based on numbers .. but very few .. most of my domains I buy because I think someone would need/want it. Pretty simply .. in theory .. lol. Here are some of my purchases from last year ...

Efty is a popular product .. the best thing about it is that you own and control your own leads. If you have any questions about it, you can also contact @Michael Cyger, @lionel_efty or @Doron Vermaat

Best of luck to you going forward! :)

Thanks for the Welcomes!

Looks like a tight and reliable group.
And look forward to learning how to unlearn the past.

Still doing my evening prayers.
But they don’t seem to help with sales:shifty:

I need to smash some serious clouseouts...
You know... let all the “sardines” go - at least for a buck or 2.....

Afternic hasn’t been exciting.
GodAddy seems to be going skizo.
No idea of .com.au marketplaces....

And trying to decide if Efty is the way to go - or rather go with Dan?

And way too many names to deal with....

Thanks guys.

Does anyone have an idea about buying expired .com.aus that belonged to a registered Pty Ltd?
