Do you've already any domain with them? I have already grabbed 5 domains from 5 accounts without any issue. You should try with an another account.

123-reg are OK. Looked after my UK domains for many years. Support is pretty good to (usually 24 - 48 hr turnaround.
Renewals are expensive though
