Hey everyone. Many people think that we are aggressive. Definitely not, we are good at promoting ourselves.

The .TOP seems to be a China dominated market. There is development and usage in the TLD (the surveys I run measure web usage and development in TLDs) but there does seem to be a high turnover on domain names with many registrations not renewing. It has a long way to go to becoming a global gTLD. How will .TOP registry promote the gTLD outside the Chinese market?

Many here are looking for where to locate potential buyers. You have to work on identifying such place with example of sales.

I own a few gtlds

But I don't own a dot top

But I don't I ever will as there are plenty of
Gtlds I'd look for first and in 5 years buying gtlds I have never even thought of dot top as I prefer a few other ones

Without GoDaddy - I don't see any significant perspectives for .TOP aftermarket.

Look at .top sales - Then you might change your mind .

My mind depends on my own investments... into mid xxx .TOP domains for the past 4+ years...
1 was sold for $850 and that's all.

Really???

2 of my .TOP domains were blocked without any notifications and reasons.
Recently 1 at Moniker and another 1 in the past at AlpNames.
They were just parked "For Sale" (at ParkingCrew/Bodis and Sedo) and traffic on them was ~0.

.top might have gained some value
but they way it is today

it has no good reputation in the western world

I had about 400 .top
when they released
all top keywords

I'm left with a handful now

the incredibly bad support
while alpnames crashed

made me no longer want to have these

Hey, Alpname has been on bankrupt since the beginning of this year. If your domain has been locked with Moniker, you might have some abuse infringement issues. If you have any concerns, you should contact the e-mail address below: [email protected].

What abuse???
The domain was registered and just parked @ParkingCrew and that's all... I parked and forgot about it.
And traffic on it was just few visitors monthly!

Additionally I have checked this domain at https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/
And it is NOT blacklisted!

NON-Adult domain.
Just generic term, from Jewelry niche.

Spamhaus only deals with e-mail spam so as it is a parked domain name, it is unlikely to ever feature in Spamhaus. Blocking without any notification is odd but some registries and registars can do this where there's problem content or a domain name is being abused for malware, phishing or bot controller activity. It is odd though. Did the DNS data on the domain names change shortly before they were blocked? It could have been something as simple as a typo error on the registrar or registry side that led to their blocking.

It was parked almost ~1.5 years, were no problems.
But in July they suddenly decided to block it... without any reasons and any notification.

Blocked by Moniker (clientHold).
And Moniker replied that Registry asked them to block it.

I do note that .top sales seem pretty consistent, and that some English words do sell. However the high fraction of registrations from China make it challenging for most of us to, I think, reach potential customers for the domains. Do you have any suggestions regarding this @masonzhang. Also do you have plans for promotion to try to make the user database more global?

Also, the fact you can not list them on Afternic remains a challenge (although DAN is a good alternative). Have you had discussions with Afternic to see if they would reconsider, or what conditions they need for that. Given their expanding office in China, it seems strange not to handle a TLD that is widely registered, and it seems traded, there.

Personally I have a handful of .top domain names still, but not many. One potential use I can see for them is for companies based outside China that want a presence in China, along with some use elsewhere, or for phrases where the .top makes sense.

Thank you for being active on NPs to represent the registry, @masonzhang.

Afternic is out because GoDaddy is NOT accredited by this Chinese registry.

Thank you Dan, I really appreciate your comments. First of all, we have to admit that .Top registry has put a lot of efforts into the chinese market because of the geographical reason. Besides that, our team is quiet young and we have not got so many experiences. To be honest, I am the first one who has been studying out of China for many years. Personal experience, I have been studying in France and Canada for several years. Then, I moved to New Zealand and worked for Instra Corporation, which has been acquired by Centralnic-a stock listed company based in London. Unfortunately, I have to move back to China for personal reasons. Thank you for your remarks.

What we intend to do:

1) Work closely with the registries overseas, in particular, the US is our main market

2) We will try to avoid any illegal infringements and give people the options to invest on this Gtlds

3) Launch a new marketing strategy

The reason that we are unable to do use afternic is partially because Godaddy has some abuse concerns about .Top domains. Still, we are working hard to negotiate with them.

We welcome all the comments and please let us know if you need any assistance.

@Rob Monster We had a great pleasure to work with you. :xf.smile:
