Congrats I remember when Amcy first got the name many years ago and they auctioned it back in 2012.

Appraisal thread from 2004, 97 posts. https://www.namepros.com/threads/joy-tv.58196/

AMCY and I lucked out around the same time back when .tv domains like this and LCD.tv went for $1,000 to $10,000 a year, these names slipped by, Amcy handregged Joy.tv for $30 and I handregged LCD.tv for the same.

It is a superb name and congratulations on a great sale @tbwinpr ! It must take courage to invest a significant amount and hold it for a number of years, and I am so glad it paid off for you. If it gets listed on NameBio it will tie for first place in the 2019 .tv sales so far in the year.
Congrats again,
Bob

You could say courage, but I say foresight.

I often pay 20k for domains for the sole purpose of holding for 10 years. Rick Schwartz addressed that in a number of his blogs.

Eventually a sweet domain will find a home and a profit will be realized.

Heartfelt congratulations to the op on this sale.

Agree with all this - I bought Airfares.tv last year from Godaddy for $11 - I will hold it
There are still great deals if you look

This is a great point - I have a few domains like Pacemakers.com that get crappy offers. I know what the domain is worth. It makes my wife mad that I wont cash out at whatever Im offered and pay off some debt. I cant get her to understand that it takes one buyer who really wants the name - it may take 10 years but it will cash out eventually. She has no patience - I dont either at times :)

Thanks for all the interesting comments in this thread. Obviously patience, as @uglydork and others have said, is important, and foresight as noted by @MapleDots. The best domainers (I am saying this as a commentator, not as one! :xf.grin:) have the right amount of confidence to hold a domain name long term and as several have said see that eventually the right end user will come along.

That being said, it is also easy to be unjustifiably confident, I would argue. To think a domain is great, when it is not, or that it will get a high price when it probably never will. That is why the NP community is so vital - it allows us to gather other views, not to change our own, but to temper our view within a wider set of opinions.

With respect to this name, while it is easy to say this now that it has sold :xf.wink:, I think aesthetically and functionally it is pretty obviously a great name. Read it, say it. It just feels wonderful. Obviously a big potential market in the inspirational/healthy life and other TV communities.

Thanks for the background @equity78 provided re .tv domains and finding the gems for decent prices.

Back in 2004 - 2005 Bob it was just pure luck, names that fell through the cracks, back then all names were at www.tv managed by registry owner Verisign, so LL and LLL names were $500 a year up to $50,000 back then WOW.tv was a $50,000 a year premium not one off purchase, all new gtld registries learned from .tv on how to have premium pricing. It was a wild time and the stuff that got the .tv sub forum going when I started that here back in 2005. Namepros did not look like it does now, there was no such thing as a sub forum for just one extension. Domaining is very different now, way too many people on every niche, very few pricing disparity opportunities.

That's the beauty of NP which gives opportunity to get up to date information. Because some great names today may not be so great tomorrow.

Factors like technology can easily make a domain in that niche obsolete. Getting information to know what to hold is very important.
