Individuals who purchased recently released .uk domain names from auction have overpaid. They will either lose money or brake even, the probability of turning a profit is at around zero.

I think he means they have been using the .co.uk already and feels this is more business like for the uk then just .uk is. I could be wrong, but still will catch a lesser value than .com anyway.

considering accountancy.co.uk does not resolve, I think the owner of the .uk is gonna struggle to sell unless it is an end user purchase.....

These prices are too high for .uk extension if you aim to make a profit.

.co is garbage.

.app is crapp

.top is garbage.

.ICU is as garbage as Geneva is a home of slave owners.

That's a bargain if you aim to create a business out of it. As a blanket statement to say "Individuals who purchased recently released .uk domain names from auction have overpaid." is bs.

I did say unless it was an end user sale....no blanket statement was made for accountancy.uk by myself....

I do agree. I think there's an element of wanting/wishing for a new market boost to take the stagnation out of the .co.uk scene.

It might reawaken interest but in the short term all that it has done is Double the number of domains for the same sized market.

For those of us that remember the heydays of co.uk equating to 10% of the .com value. Today appears to be a graveyard in comparison

There's a danger of conflating stagnation in domain name sales with the dynamics of .CO.UK market. The .CO.UK subdomain is still rather healthy in terms of a general market. However, a mature TLD is not a monolith and domain names drop each month and others are registered.

The June figures from Nominet show that the .UK sub is about 3.61 million registrations compared to about 9.7 million in other subdomains. Admittedly some of the 3.61 million registrations are registrar land grabs that may not renew well.

Yes some great sales have happened i have sold a few .UK i caught in the ROR as i didn't just want the .uk i hold thousands of domains but prefer to hold both co.uk and .uk and still selling far more co.uk the only .uk selling are to traders or investors to hold but with price increases etc its turning me back to .com

I will disagree with you on this.
The reason the auction prices were high is because people saw the value in the extension.
Shorter is always better and eventually .uk will move to the foreground.

If you look at .uk as a long term investment it is a good choice. If I was from that region I would be buying up every dictionary word I could get my hands on. In ten years time I would invite you to my mansion to chew the fat and show you how domaining paid the bill.

Seems like you are a long term member so chances are we will both be here in 10 years, I'm going to make a reminder to direct a post at you to discuss .uk at that time. Hopefully we are both healthy at that point but I am very confident that .uk will be a dominant force by then.

If you aim to make a profit through resale, you can't pay these prices. These name are very unlikely to be resold for higher than what has been pain on auction.

Says who?
Anything that has a limited supply will eventually go up in value. If anything the auction prices have already set a precedence for value.

You need to become more realistic.

Limited demand, not only supply.

Again, where are your facts?

What makes you think there is limited demand? You just set they sold at high auction prices, that shows demand?

Wholesale, retail, does not matter, whenever it sells there is demand.

The UK is a big place, single words will go up exponentially in value.

PS. Focus on what I have said from the get go....

Single dictionary word .uk domains

I think what some of us are trying to point out is that is that a lot of these terms that are selling is pretty close to what we would expect the .CO.UK sell for in todays market.

The launch of the shorter.UK (and much less known) is not going to grow our ground. Sure you maybe right and in ten years the .UK maybe the more prominent one. I just think there has been a bit more of an element of "Me To" in this uk issue. If you'd seen the number of UK (domainers) registering for the UK release 'Slots quota' Even I was quite shocked.

Seemed everyone and his dog wanted to get their hands on an efficient Script. (preferably free) To me the obvious point is the failure to capture on the drop, is now driving-up the auction prices, while everyone still has their hands in the pie,

Now of course those that had super-efficient scripts, large quota access. and the bandwidth are reaping the benefits, but you can bet 99% of all drop registration attempts failed. Now you are going to want that domain/s whatever

I could not agree with you more, it's a bargain basement price for a single word .uk.

OMG imagine building a business on it an in ten years saying you bought the domain for only 3,500 :notworthy:

Hell you basically bought your business identity for the price of a few newspaper ads.

@DomainNameBroker.com I have to say I am a bit surprised you cannot see it as an opportune time to get in on the action.

It's interesting how many people appear have found interest in the .UK namespace now since the RoR. I see it as a good thing.

The big holders are still the big holders because they all snagged their .UK names to match their large .co.uk holdings, most brands got their .UK names so not much of an effect there and there's a nice healthy amount of people invested in the .UK namespace which I would argue wasn't there before, as also eluded to how you mention that there was a huge spike in tag holders leading up to the .
big releases.

Looking at that sedo list I think personally that most of the lll .uks in that list don't reflect the .co.uk prices. I haven't seen many lll.co.uks with decent letters go for that low.

Interested to know your thoughts.
