That's what an 8 billion population carbon footprint looks like, and with 500K added daily, you better get used to it.

Scientists estimate we would need 1.71 Earths to support our current population, so burn baby burn!

I know, but that's expected. If I'm over there and I'm *not* baking in July-August, then something is wrong. :xf.grin:

Right now, the Arctic is on fire, literally and expelling enough carbon dioxide to make any dream of reversing climate change (which it is with 8 billion and growing) an official dream. It's ovah!

Scientists give us 25 years before we've used up our resources and humankind is virtually extinct (there will still be pockets of humanity scrounging around for a while) so lets party like it's 1999!

25 years - that's scary and it's bizarre to think it's all happened just to get Starbucks & co to hit their quarterly corporate numbers. Now I know why younger millennials don't give a crap.

Rich assholes pollute the world and want depopulation. Read some history on demographics and you will know that assholes have been saying that world is overpopulated even when the population of the world was less than a billion. They have an agenda and they spread this misinformation to gullible people like you via media and the education system. The world has more than enough reserves for more than 10 billion people, it's just that every single country's system helps the rich get richer and poor get poorer.

You're half right, as "rich assholes" do pollute the world, but the corporate elite absolutely loves overpopulation, as it gives them a ready-made consumer base to import. Birth rates in Western nations are extremely low and corporations need "more consumers" in order to survive and hit financial targets.

Look at the stats, virtually all countries are at or below a "2" range for births per of-age females (even India is down considerably) and corporations complain daily about our "low birth rate" (like ToysrUs did) or our "aging population" (i.e. any corporate lobby group), and have changed gears to promote massive increases in immigration and population migration towards richer nations. It's referred to as "consumer creation" at the business level, and believe me, corporations are lobbying hard.

And that's my entire point, corporations are hellbent on the CONSTANT CREATION OF CONSUMERS, which is their most important index. Its not about world population, it's about the number who are active consumers, and how "rich assholes" manipulate the system to get richer and make the world a worse place.

What do you think this recent "population migration" and "diversity migration" really is? It's rich corporations using the overpopulation explosion in certain African and Arabic countries to bring in their excess populations and artificially create "more Western consumers" so they can hit their projected growth figures.

Once the "new consumers" get to Europe and North America, they automatically join the Starbucks masses and become huge waste producers and everything gets worse in an unending cycle... other than the big corporations, who reap the benefits of this constant Western consumer spike through "rich assholes-led" migration.

More consumers = more garbage, more pollution, more cars, higher resource use, less open land, but more and more profits to "rich assholes" who created the whole situation in the first place. It's analogous to the slave trade, but corporations now trade in the 3rd-world populace in order to increase their profits and shareholder equity.

I am not "blaming" 3rd world countries for having 8+ kids per of-age female, as I understand the situation is different there, but at some point the world needs to get overpopulation under control so the "rich assholes" don't have a ready supply of "excess population" to turn into "active corporate consumers".

I am living in a microcosm of this right now. We recently moved to a "new neighborhood" comprised of recently-built mid-size to big houses, and I'm one of the very few who isn't a recent immigrant - they're all nice people and it's been fun - I have to teach these guys everything from how to mow a lawn to getting an air conditioner to shoveling or snow-blowing the driveway - it's weird what we take for granted. Certainly no complaints about the neighbors and they're much nicer, quieter, politer, and more accommodating than my prior "native" neighbors.

But when I go out at 7AM on garbage day and see a long line of "new citizens" dragging their 2-3 bags of refuse out to the corner, and then realize this is happening all over the country, and all over the world, it makes me understand that "rich assholes" will not allow us to survive this, and I don't think many will see even the 25 years that most scientists give us.

Here's a great quote that sums it up quite well:

"If everyone lived like western consumers we would need up to 5 planets to support us. And the number of western consumers is growing by the second."

But North America recognizes this and has a declining birth rate in the range of 1.65 per woman/couple, which is also similar to Europe's birth rate.

From your Vox article:

"Good environmental intentions are swamped by the effects of money."

"But just by living in America (or any wealthy, developed country) and enjoying its shared resources and infrastructure, you are responsible for a certain baseline level of its shared emissions as well."
