status-duplicate Simple solution to prevent google indexing

i have no problem with my names being indexed in google
as if someone is searching that engine, my domain may show up and provide a lead.

to me, it's silly to put /// marks in between a name, especially when it's pigeon
it also makes it hard to read and takes away from esthetics of the name

It is super bad if you are asking xxxx from an end user, then through a simple search he finds out that you bought the domain for xx at Namepros!!

16 years as NP member and not one buyer, whether they be enduser or another domainer. has ever mentioned what I originally paid for it, in reference to asking price.

you're more likely to get that question when buying from aftermarket auction, because the potential buyer probably was bidding on same name.
and as such, they would know the closing price

Adding arbitrary punctuation to a thread title doesn’t really prevent search engines from indexing it. It may decrease the relevance for some queries, but there’s a good chance a search for the domain name will still turn up results with punctuation. (It also varies depending on the search engine that you’re using.)

Adding rel=“nofollow” won’t mitigate the issue. That discourages crawlers from using the link for reputation scoring purposes, but they’ll still visit the link and they’ll still index it if they feel it’s a worth their time.

It is technically possible to prevent reputable search engines from indexing the marketplace threads, but many NamePros members use Google to search for specific threads on NamePros. This is because XenForo’s built-in search isn’t all that great, especially compared to Google. If we prevented indexing, they wouldn’t be able to do that. We’re working on improving search, but it’s a big undertaking and is still a work in progress.

The content that has value to be searchable is outside matketplace section, so I dont think it is necessary to index marketplace threads.

My understanding is that people are using it for domains as well. If I recall correctly, someone built their own NamePros marketplace thread search engine just for that purpose.

Many times our marketplace listings are shown on the first page of Google when anyone does a search for that domain and even when just the keywords or abbreviations are searched in some cases, especially with short names.

These search results can stay for years even after they have been deleted from Name Pros threads. How could seeing the domain you are thinking about spending $2,000 for listed for $10 not effect your thinking process?

There are 1,808 guests on Name Pros right now, compared to only 276 members. How many of these guests are here because they were looking for a domain and followed a search result here and now see that they can get names cheap instead of paying retail?

From looking at the logs, probably none. Most of that traffic is hitting informational threads, blog posts, and news threads.

Same here, no one has ever asked me or knew how much it was in the past. In addition, only one end-user buyer ever asked me about traffic stats.

then the one who listed it for $10, probably wasn't thinking.

or had no idea of it's potential
