Bars and restaurants will now be able to clearly advertise their type of business with customized Internet domain names.
Punto 2012, a Mexico City-based domain company, announced the new categories in May at the National Restaurant Association Show. According to a recent press release, the company created the distinctive domain tags to offer “a more meaningful and better defined internet address” for associated industries and topics online.
During the initial land rush period, which ends July 10,anyonecan apply for one of the new domain names. Punto 2012 believes that generic names such as “redwine.bar” or “FrenchGourmet.rest” will be in high demand and is encouraging potential owners to apply early. Some names may go to squatters, hoping to resell the domain at a later date.

Much ado about what?
So they think they are the only failed nTLD in town?
How many bars & restaurants are out there and why will they need internet presence on large scale?
Until the day folks start eating online... VRBreakfast.rest

Keeping up on current events (circa 2014) huh?

1) This type of new gTLD is obsolete in terms of branding, as for the last decade or two, no company wants to brand themselves into a corner that limits future expansion. Something like .BAR does just that.

2) When I see .REST I immediately think of Rest Homes, which is the catch-phrase for hip retirement/nursing care homes. I do not think of Restaurants, and my second guess would probably be for Funeral Homes, which incorporate the term REST a lot.
