i am looking to develop a couple directories for Pediatric.com, MontessoriSchools.com.

Has any had success with building a directory? If so I would love to see your site.

The directory sites I am looking at currently are eDirectory and BrilliantDirectories. What other ones are out there?

Not a directory but very easy to create content types / database tables. Also open source.

How simple do you want it or what language? Do you like wordpress?

Check your hosting, if you have Softilicious (the easy way) , there are usually 2 to 4 directory (cms s?) ready to install, free. May be worth taking a look?
